Sitting at lunch, Nick is noticeably absent yet again. Aidan and Matteo are going back and fourth between our usual table, with the basketball and football teams, Erica and Delilah are currently on Boohoo looking at dresses for Prom, while I sit with my headphones in, being my typical antisocial self.

Looking up, I see Nick and appear from the other side of the room, which is when I notice him look back and smile at Beckett Hanson, a Dancer on the same team as Erica. Beckett also happens to be best friends with Axel Jones, my former best friend.

Standing instantly, I grab Nick's arm and drag him to a corner of the cafeteria. "Beckett Hanson?" I ask.

Nick slightly rolls his eyes. "I knew you'd flip, that's why I didn't want to say anything!"

"This isn't me flipping Nick. This is me wondering why the hell one of my best friends thought keeping it a secret that he's fooling around with my former best friend's friend was acceptable to keep from me?" I snap.

"Jeez, Kat it's been like 3 years since that argument with Axel, aren't you over it?!" Nick asks.

"No, I'm not over it. Because that bastard left me high and dry for popularity after promising me he'd always have my back. You know how big I am on keeping promises!" I respond.

He sighs. "Yeah, Kat I know. Look I'm sorry, but I really like Beckett, he's nice. I think you'd really like him too, if you got to know him."

Folding my arms, I glare at him before sighing. "Fine, just because I love you so much, I'm willing to try and be nice and bite my tongue before making judgements."

He hugs me instantly. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're the best!"

"Damn fucking right I am." I mutter which makes him laugh. The bell rings and we all head to class, the next being Gym for Erica, Delilah and I.

Sitting on the benches as Coach Ramsey starts going over the 'no violence' rule of Dodgeball. Erica leans over to me. "What were you and Nick talking about?"

"He's dating one of Axel Jones' friends." I whisper back.

Delilah gasps grabbing everyone's attention. "Sorry." She smiles nervously, however Ramsey just shakes his head and continues talking. "Which one?" Delilah asks.

"Beckett Hanson." I whisper back.

"He's actually a really nice guy, good Dancer too." Erica responds.

"Yeah, well I'll have no issues with him if, a, he treats Nick right and b, I don't have to put up with Axel." I respond.

They both nod their heads. "Although it would actually be very entertaining to watch you and Axel Jones throw down. I'm amazed it hasn't happened yet."

"Because the last remaining brain cells he has are smart enough to keep him away." I answer.

"Miss Lawrence, something you would like to share with the class?" Ramsey asks.

"I mean sure, if they all wanna know I'm on my period currently." I respond, which gains a chorus of laughter from my classmates as Ramsey grimaces.

"Just keep the talking to a minimum." Ramsey comments.

I mock salute him. "You got it Coach."

It didn't take long before I was thrown out of the game. One of my throws just so happened to be a little rough for poor, dainty Veronica Hale, who overdramatically in my opinion, doubled over and cried out in pain when my ball directly hit her in the abdomen. I spend the rest of the class, watching the other's play and finding ways to entertain myself.

When school is over, I walk to my car and I'm shocked when I see whose standing by it;

"Axel?" I ask.

He stands up straight, with his hands in his pocket. "Kat."

"Why are you standing by my car?" I ask.

"Word has it one of my friends is dating one of yours." He comments.

"That would appear so. What has that got to do with you standing by my car?" I ask.

He walks closer to me. "Tell your friend to back off Beckett."

I laugh at this comment. "And why would I do that?"

"Because our two friend groups meshing won't work." He responds.

"Wait, wait, wait, you're worried that one of your friends being involved with one of mine means that our friend groups will have to mesh? That is an extremely shallow reason, so I see you haven't really changed much in 3 years. I'm not going to tell Nick who he can and can't see, if Beckett makes him happy and vice versa, as their friends, we're meant to support them. And I'm not happy about it either Axel, because quite frankly the last person I want to put up with is you, but I made a promise to try and bite my tongue and be nice, you should maybe try and do the same." I suggest.

I push past him and climb into my car, driving off and heading back home. The moment I walk in, my parents are once again fighting. Letting out a sigh, I make my way for the stairs.

"Kat?!" My dad calls.

Ignoring him, I head to April's room and see her cuddling Thumper. "Want my speakers?" I ask and she nods her head, so I walk into my room and grab my wireless speakers, putting them on her bedside table and linking her iPod to it, so she can listen to her music. I grab my laptop and get comfortable on a pile of cushions in her room, "Got any homework?" I ask.

"Multiplications." She answers, showing me the sheet of work she has.

"Alright, 3 times tables, my favourite! OK, so similar to the 2 times tables, you're basically just adding 3 every time, so 0x3 will be 0 because it's not being multiplied by anything, 1x3 will be 3, because you can't have a number lower than 3 on the 3 times tables, so what do you think 2x3 will be?" I ask.

"3,4...6?" She asks.

"Yeah good job!" I cheer, which earns a smile. "So now try and do all the way up to 10x3 on your own and then I'll check it OK?" I ask and she nods smiling.
