The rainbow was meant to be a sign of pride. It represented tolerance, joy, and love. That's why the persecuted community claimed it as their own. But some weren't happy about that. "The rainbow has been around forever," the bigots whined. "Why do they get to have it?" And that's how the War of the Rainbow was born. Each side wanted to declare the rainbow was theirs, and so the colorful symbol popped up everywhere it never was before. Republican conventions. NRA meetings. Klan rallies. A wave of bright rainbows covered the country, and discrimination had never looked so fabulous.
