I stared at the invitation. I was aware that it was coming. I didn't want to have to go. But when you were asked, over the phone, mind you, to be the maid of honor, it's inevitable. I tucked the invitation into my purse and sigh.

I hated weddings.

My former best friend had called me up a week ago asking me to be her maid of honor. I couldn't exactly say no. I mean, who does that? It's supposed to be an honor; it's in the name.

"Hello?" I picked up the phone, and continued to munch on my French toast.

"Jordyn?" An overly excited voice asked. I mentally groaned. Even if it had been years since I spoke with her, I still could identify her voice. It was my signal that I should get the hell out of where ever I was at the moment and hide.

"Kendra Price?" I asked to make sure.

She gasped. "You remember."

Sadly, I answered in my head. "Yup. May I ask why are you calling?"

She giggled. "Well, I wanted to see you in person, but you live all the way in the big city." She whined. What? Did she want me to move or something? "Anyways," She took a dramatic pause. Kendra was still the same as I remembered, polished and stupid. Don't tell her I said that. "I'm getting married!"

My jaw dropped to the ground. I recovered somewhat, enough to answer her. "Wow, uh. I guess I'm really happy for you."

"I know, I can't believe I'm engaged. So anyways, I was calling to ask you something."

"Like?" I asked warily.

"Like a bride asking her best friend to be her maid of honor. So? Will you be maid of honor, Jordyn?"

I squeezed my eyes shut. "Fine." I replied reluctantly.

Then she started rambling about details and my "duties." Y'know, weddings are just a way for two people to get a lot of money as well as losing the money? The extravagent and unneeded gifts, all the money they pay to have the best wedding of their lives, and then be stuck with the same person with the rest of their lives. I was on the Barney (How I Met Your Mother) side of things when it comes to weddings.

"Jordyn." My current best friend waved his hands over my eyes. "Are you all right?" He crossed his arms and put all his weight on one side in a very feminine way. Yes, he. He was kind of gay. At least, he admitted to it.

"What Kevin?" I snapped out my daze.

"Hug?" He opened his arms expectantly.

I rolled my eyes and enveloped my arms around his muscular body. He was the kind of guy that girls were very disappointed to find out he really isn't straight.

"I'm going to miss you. Why does Cruella need you there six months in advance?"

"I don't know. But it better be good." I sighed and released him. I straightened out my purple beret and my grey knit sweater. "Tell me if anything happens with James." I laughed and started climbing into the cab. "If I forgot anything, I left the address on my counter in my room. Don't be afraid to drop by and save me."

He nodded. "Key's still in the same place?"

"Why would I move it? I would forget then!" I laughed.

"Okay, bye, J. Don't forget to feed me the gossip, I wouldn't be surprised if Cruella got a divorce before the wedding." He chuckled as he closed the door to the yellow cab.
