I wish I could just make you a stranger;
For the night we met, you changed my whole life;
My scale of beauty, you put in danger,
Is there one that surpasses you: a wife?
___________________________To wallow is my greatest enemy;
My eyes look down upon it with great scorn;
To give in, why not write my elegy?
So when I lost you, again I was born:
__________________________Not that I will never find another,
But compared to you, I have a great fear;
My heart's wish was to make you my lover;
Now wails of depression are all I hear:
___________________________I know the odds say there are more than one,
But I doubt you can really be outdone.
