Commenters vs. Hostage Situation

This has become the one thing I will not over look and stay a fan of an author. The one thing. I will over look everything else listed in this rant book for a good writer but not this (doesn't mean everything else in my book doesn't annoy me or make me enjoy a story less). I cannot stand "those writers"  who refuse to update until they get X amount of comments.

Especially, when they are really unreasonable about it. If you got 10 comments last time, you can not expect 25 comments on the next chapter. It is just not realistic.

Or if you haven't reached the goal in over a month, it's time to give in and update and lower you comment expectation.

Then they spam their followers with Updates saying "10 comments till the next chapter".

I get it. Comments and Votes are nice but so is simply writing and sharing for fun and not for fame.

Why does writing have to be about comments and votes? Why can't we just write because we love it? Why can't we post because we want to share? Why do we have to play hostage negation to just enjoy a story?
