We have 5 senses, babe. Use 'em.

Most people are aware of this and most writers take advantage of all five. However, I still see authors picking favorites and completely neglecting the other senses completely; myself included.

We not only see the world around us; but we feel it, hear it, smell it and sometimes taste it. I personally   find touch the one I rely on most to describe the setting around my stories. Some writers prefer seeing and so on. But there is so much more out there we could be exploring in our descriptions.

Just close your eyes and imagine the world you have created, imagine you are the character. What do you smell? Is it raining? Can you hear the pitter-patter on the roof? Can you smell the wet grass? Feel the muggy air? Do you see steam rising from the hot pavement across from you?
