"Lintz!" Tatiova's beauty was crafted into a spear of pure white light, shining radiatly over Cosmo as he uttered the incantation and gripped the spear, hurling it through the air and watching it become no more than a strip of light in the room. It sailed towards its opponent at incredible speeds and Cynderad was once again incapable of reacting in time. It dodged to the side, rolling on the floor like an animal as it was struck in the shoulder by the beam of light.
The wound barely bled, the heat of the attack cauterizing it in an instant. The damage, however, was clear upon Cynderad rising from the floor, the arm attached to the would completely lacking function. Instead, it dangle to its side, giving it a lopsided stance as its face contorted with anger and pain. It charged, and Cosmo knew he had to react.
"Vyzér." The demon reacted with incredible speed, dodging the attack entirely and being lurched forward by its shockwave, propelling him onto Cosmo, pinning him to the ground and grabbing him by the throat with its remaining operable arm. Cynderad looked down into Cosmo's eyes, its enormous mouth dripping with blood. Its breath smelled like rotting flesh and dung.
"You are too weak." Cynderad's grip increased as Cosmo's vision faded away. He wracked his brain for anything at all in his knowledge that could possibly help him now, without a voice to cast spells with. As he began to lose his consciousness, Athro's words reached his mind. Spells also seem to take a bind to your specific emotions, as some spellcasters have been known to be capable of casting spells without uttering a word. His eyes opened wide, a second wind reaching his mind. Dragon's Focus materialized on his hand and he gripped Cynderad's remaining arm with determination.
Make sure to listen well today. Every spell could be useful in the heat of battle, even these spells that you are learning early on. Another lesson she had taught him echoed in his memories as his mind slowly inched towards unconsciousness. Hai! Hai! Hai! Hai! His thoughts screamed off of the inside of his skull as the futile mental incantations did nothing. Hai! Hai! Hai! His hand began to cool, frost began to form on his fingertips. Cosmo saw this, and screamed the incantation in his mind as his vision slowly faded, the mana being pulled through him like a conduit.
Hai! The cold became intense incredibly quickly, seeping below the first layer of Cynderad's skin, causing it great pain. It raised Cosmo into the air, preparing to smash him into the ground. It was clear that it was trying to knock him unconscious. Before Cosmo could even think of a solution, its fist made collision with the ground, knocking the wind out of Cosmo's lungs as well as rendering a sickening crunch from his left shoulder, but keeping his head unscathed somehow.
Hai! Hai! Hai! Cosmo increased the intensity of the spells tenfold, and they soon became all he could hear, all that he was, the cold from Dragon's Focus chilling the entire chamber as sheets of frost crawled over Cynderad's arm. It lifted Cosmo to slam him into the basalt once more and, upon making collision with the ground, its arm splintered against the force, freeing Cosmo, who rolled across the ground away from the demon. Cynderad let loose a hellish shriek, its eyes bloodshot as it mindlessly sharged towards Cosmo, swinging wildly with its mangled, limp arm.
"Schrank!" Cosmo casted the shield without a second thought, unable to react within time to dodge, the barrier of light appearing right before the beast's fist would make contact with his chest. Cynderad, however, broke through the spell with ease, shattering the shield, sparks of pale yellow light fizzling into the air before disappearing into nothingness. Momentum carried its arm forwards, connecting with Cosmo and flinging him backwards across the ground, unable to breathe from the strong impact against his chest.
Cynderad leapt forward without a second's hesitation its clawed and muscular foot aimed for Cosmo's helpless form as he writhed on the ground in pain. He could not concentrate on anything other than the aching in his chest as he attempted to suck in air, his lungs unresponsive. Just as his adversary was about to land his attack, an enormous breath of air entered Cosmo's lungs, almost to his surprise.
