Chapter 10~Gone Wrong

Max's POV
Melissa hit the water with a huge splash. We all cheered, waiting for her to come up. Then the cheering stopped. She hadn't come up.

"Where is she?" Mark said

I took my shirt off and left it on the sand. I ran into the water.

"Melissa!" I yelled

I swam to the water beneath the edge of the overlook. I dove down. Melissa was floating. I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her up.

"MARK!" I yelled

Mark saw me. He had a speed boat ready in the water. He drove it over to me. He helped me get Melissa on the boat and get her secured. Mark jumped off the boat and let me drive back to shore. When I got to shore, Connor helped me get her off the speed boat. My heart was beating a 1000 times a minute. Someone came over with a towel for us to set her down on. We set her down. Then Mark came up to us.

"Where did you find her?" Mark asked

"By the overlook. She was just floating there." I said

Then Tom came running over to us.

"What happened?" Tom asked

"She jumped off the overlook." Mark said

Tom just stood there. Then some lifeguards came over to us. They pulled me away from her. I yelled for her. Mark and Connor held me back. They started CPR. I felt my knees buckle under me.

"No. No. No." I said

This is all my fault. I should've stopped her. I balled my hands into fists. The lifeguards pulled out a shock machine. That could only mean one thing. She wouldn't wake up.

"This is all my fault." I said

"Max, don't blame yourself. Trust me, she's done a lot worse than this." Mark said

"What?" I said

"When she first moved here, we invited her to come to our party so she could meet some new people. We started playing truth or dare. She jumped off a roof into the water before. She came up in 3 seconds." Mark explained

The lifeguards came over to us.

"Is she okay?" I said

They looked down. I pushed them out of the way and went over to her. I put my hand on her cheek and I held her hand in my free hand.

"Melissa. I know you're in there. Come on. Don't give up." I whispered

She just laid there.

"Melissa, don't you dare go toward that light." I whispered

She laid there.

"It's no use man. She's got to be dead by now." Connor said

"Melissa. I know you can hear me." I whispered

"This is stupid! Dude she's dead just accept it!" Connor yelled

Mark punched him in the jaw.

"Melissa. Melissa. Please. Don't leave me like this. Don't go toward the light. I swear if you do, we are done." I whispered
