he looked at me with indignation, which i expected.

my response wasn't very clear. he probably misinterpreted which part of his rant i replied to, which means he thinks that i want people in my life that are going to treat me like shit.

that's not what i meant.

but before i could even back myself up, and explain what i meant, he sat up, ready to run out the door.

"wait--what just happened?"

he paused, his hand on the doorknob. i could see his shoulders fall as he exhaled.

he stood there for a few seconds. it's clear he isn't sure if he wants to listen to me or not.

i can't blame him. i wouldn't want to listen to me either.

"i don't know adelaide. you tell me," he turns around, running a hand through his hair.

"one minute, it seems like you might genuinely be interested in me. the next, you're running the opposite direction."

i stand up, my hands on my hips.

"the only person running in the opposite direction right now, is you."

he bites back a likely crude remark, staring back at me in silence.

that's what i thought.

"you're so quick to assume i'd make the wrong choice, so quick to judge. you never want to hear someone out. the second they don't give you what you want, you're darting out the door. it's bullshit. you said i shouldn't put up with people who won't treat me right? you're not setting a very good example of what that's supposed to be."
