Keshav's POV

After an eventful tuition class, I was scrolling through my email in the staff room. That's when I noticed an ad flashing in the top-left corner. It was an ad for a matrimonial site - M4marry.com- with a beautiful girl smiling and looking for her perfect match. Out of curiosity, I clicked the link under the ad. In no time I was on the results page with many photos of the beautiful ladies. Some of them were damn pretty but to check their profiles out, I had to register. I sighed in annoyance...

My next tuition class was in an hour, I had plenty of time so I thought I'd register myself and create my profile on the matrimonial site. To be honest, those pretty faces on the results page forced me to make an account.

So, finally, my profile was on the website. I didn't bother to upload a picture as I intended to just stalk those lovely ladies on the website. I set my filter to check out all the lovely south Indian profiles. There were a few whom I wanted to contact but before I could do so, there came a heart breaking moment! To talk to those pretty faces I had to make a payment. Damn! There is no such thing as free lunch.

'What!! 4000 bucks for a yearly plan? Shit' that's when my sister's fees, rent and all came into my mind.

'No way,' I said to myself but also thought 'If I pay the amount, I could ping any girl on the website to show my interest in her profile. Reluctantly, out of my savings, I paid the amount.

For the next few days, I got responses to my requests. Whenever I opened my inbox there was a strange excitement. However, my happiness did not last long as my favourites had declined me, the majority ignored me. Just a few accepted my request but they did not look or sound that appealing. 'It's not as if you're Varun Dhawan or Vijay Devarkonda' my mind mocked me..

But my excitement did not reduce a tad bit. M4marry.com was still my highest priority, the first thing and last thing I check every single day. There wasn't much improvement though, some girls declined me, and some of them were declined by me. Some called up on my phone, a couple of them wanted to move abroad which I was reluctant about. Some I couldn't convince India was a better place, some weren't impressed with my educational qualifications and some weren't impressed with the fact that I didn't have a 'proper family'. Slowly I started losing interest in the website...

Parallel with me failing to find a perfect match, Aarav's love story was progressing. I was happy for him as he finally was starting to forget Chandini and move on. Over the last few days, Sakshi has been staying with Aarav and me, in our tiny flat. The reason for this is Sakshi lost her keys and her roommate is not in the city so she is staying with us until her friend returns. Sakshi is a nice friendly girl, the incidents which have happened in her life are just so unfortunate, just hope she moves on as she deserves a wonderful life just like Aarav. I haven't really spoken to Sakshi's flatmate, to be honest. I don't even remember what her name is. I have only seen her around a few times.

Just like that, one evening, I received a text on my phone.

Hi, I am Meera.

I noticed that you were interested in my profile.

Would you like to call me back on this number when you're free?

-Meera

I was munching on my Pav-Bhaji, whilst sitting in between Sakshi and Aarav who were watching TV when my phone pinged with this message. Slowly I excused myself with my food and went to the balcony to dial this girl's number. Aarav gave me a dirty and suspicious look but I ignored him. At least I was giving him some privacy to spend some time with Sakshi...

Somehow I was filled with unusual excitement. Oh, I forgot to say! Before I dialled this girl's number, I quickly checked out her profile but I was disappointed to see no profile picture. Once I saved this number, I even checked her WhatsApp to see if there was any profile picture on it but again to my disappointment it did not have one single picture.

"Hello!" said a beautiful voice from the other end.

"Hi, this is Keshav" I said.

"And I am Meera," she said in a pleasing and confident voice.

"Yes, I learnt that from your text"

Our conversation began formally but, in no time, it became quite relaxed and informal when we found out some amusing things.

"Hey, I noticed that there are no photos of yourself on your matrimonial site. Wondering if you could send me a picture of yourself?" I asked with curiosity.

"I didn't see yours either, haha. Once we get to know each other, I will send you a picture of myself. Hope you don't mind..." said a voice from the opposite end.

"Okay okay as you wish" I assured Meera

Who is this Meera ?

This chapter is inspired by the book 'I too had a love story' by Ravinder Singh. The book is one of my all time favourites why is why I incorporated this plot into my story. So all credit goes to him !
