Move in day

Finally the day I had been waiting for had arrived. I was moving into a room with 5 other random strangers. Mum had come to help me move, which had involved many trips back and forth on the elevator.

When I first entered through the door of the apartment, I could see the 6 rooms on the one side of the room. Down the hallway was a kitchen and further on a lounge room with a TV. But there was no one in sight. My room was the 2nd one down in front of the lounge room and although it was a downgrade from the studio, I was excited to be living with other people my age for the next 6 months.

I toured myself around the kitchen... It was piled up to the brim with dirty dishes and the floor was barely visible through all the muck that was on it. The stove tops looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the 18th century and the fridge smelt like a sewer. Here's me thinking I was a messy person. 'What have I done?' I thought. Was this just the beginning of my regret? After my disbelief of the appearance of the kitchen my eyes magnetised to the cork board attached to the room beside me. There was a gay pride flag pinned on it. 'OH NO Lesbians' I had thought. My mind flashed back to the Lesbian in college who had made everyone feel uncomfortable by hitting on us. The experiences I've had with them were not the best so I had thought it would be a repeat of itself, but thankfully I was wrong.

When mum and I entered the apartment again with the next load of stuff, I saw two of my new roommates migrating towards the kitchen. It was a lesbian... no wait it was two lesbians... yay... "Hi, are you the new roommate?" The girl with the short black curly locks said with a slight accent. "Yes, Hi nice to meet you, I'm Hailey" I answered. "I'm Grace and this is Darcy," she replied pointing to the girl.. or was it a boy beside her with a curly dark brown mullet. "I'll give you a tour of the kitchen" Darcy said excitedly in a kiwi accent. 'Oh gosh not the kitchen again' I thought to myself. "Okay sure" I replied. So once again I re-entered the sewer rat hole...

"I'll add you to our roommates snap group" Grace said as she scanned my snap. 'You have been added to BHAD BITCHES' notification popped up on my phone. Hmm interesting taste in name.

"We're going out tonight if you wanna join?" Grace invitingly said. "It can be like your welcoming party".

"Sounds fun" I replied "but unfortunately I have a nursing shift tomorrow at 6am". Which was true, I would've joined otherwise...maybe.

Later that evening I met the rest of the roommates, well except for one. Sasha, Molly, Grace, Darcy and I all gathered around Molly's door introducing ourselves. Sasha was a tan skinned half filipino who was born and raised in Brissy and she sounded as Aussie as they came. Molly initially seemed like a basic white girl from the countryside of Gayndah, but that she was not. I couldn't help but stare at her red dragon tattoo that wrapped around her arm. 'No way! Is she fruity too?' I thought to myself. Apparently she had a boyfriend though. Darcy was from New Zealand and Grace from Brazil. Wow, very multicultural. To be honest I was kinda hoping for a hot UQ med student but I guess that didn't happen... or did it?

"What about the person in room number one?" I asked curiously. "We've never seen him," Molly said spookily. "But we know he's in there," Sasha added. "One time I came back from work at 4am and he was cooking breakfast in the kitchen," Sasha continued. "Then when I turned around for a second he disappeared". "Yeah someone heard him showering at 2am once" Darcy went on. "I think he's a ghost," Grace whispered. That sent shivers down my spine.

Whilst I was setting up my room, I heard it get slightly louder in the main area. I peaked out and there were people partying. I had my Oodie on and opened the door to say hi to some randoms, then remembered I hated talking to people and went back to hide in my room.
