Before the crows split up, Kaz gave them a final rundown of the plan.
"Here's the plan. Kasper and I will walk the route our target will take from the ballroom to the dinner event and look for an ambush point." Kaz said
"You should have one of us with you two." Inej argued
"We'll manage." Kaz responded
"You can't blow your cover this early, and Jesper needs to plot our escape route. And Lanying? well, she definitely cannot be caught." Kasper explained
"There is a gap in the schedule between events, so they may place her in a room here, away from the crowd, somewhere safe." Kaz revealed and pointed at a room on the map. "This would be where they feel she's most protected and therefore, the best place to grab her. We just need to find a way in. And have someone ready with a distraction to give us cover on our way out."
"That's where we grab her." Kasper said with a small grin
After this meeting, everyone went their separate ways. Jesper and Inej went together. Jesper was supposed to help Inej with her routine. Kaz and Kasper went to go familiarize themselves with the layout of the palace.
And Lanying, well, let's just say she had an express ticket in. A friend of hers had so generously snuck her into the little palace and secured her a healer's kefta. Lanying had excused herself for a walk but really, went to meet up with the other crows in a carriage.
"You're sure it was her?" Kaz asked Jesper as they all sat together in the carriage
"I'm telling you, she's part Shu." Jesper replied
"When exactly did you see her?" Kaz questioned
"Just after midday." Jesper responded
"What's in this room?" Inej asked
"Fitting room. It's where she'll go to change for dinner." Kasper said
"And that's where we'll grab her." Arken said. "Out of the way, clean lines of sight, easily controlled space. I like it."
"I'd like it, too, if it had a door." Kaz said bitterly
"It doesn't have a door? Inej queried
"Not one that we can use. It's some sort of Grisha lock. It took a Materialnik to open it." Kaz explained
"Is there no way to pick the lock?" Jesper asked
"Actually, there is. I can get through the door." Arken revealed
