A/n: Sing along. I dare you. (Also, when Erik sings, his lyrics will be italicized. Yours will not. If it's the two of you together, the words will be underlined.)

I sat on the piano bench, lost in thought. I was unable to play a song. There wasn't one that had popped up at all. I just couldn't think properly. I groaned, resting my head in my hands. If there was such a thing as writer's block, there was such a thing as musician's block.

I stood up from my bench, calling it a night. I was exhausted. I made my way through the opera house and to my room, near the ballerinas' dorms.  I closed my door, groaning. I looked at my  mother's piano. She had gifted it to me as a present when I arrived in Paris. It had been in the family for generations. I smiled. My mother gifted me with many of her written songs.

I sighed, kicking my shoes off. I dressed in my nightgown and laid down in my bed. I turned off my lamp and curled under the covers, closing my eyes.

...

The ivory keys of a piano rang out through the opera. I opened my eyes. The song, it was the song my mother had written. A voice sang along with the song.

Every inch of me is trembling
But not from the cold.

I slipped on my shoes and grabbed my candle. I walked the familiar halls until a came upon the stage.

Something is familiar
Like a dream, I can reach but not quite hold
I can sense you there

I gasped, looking at the man sitting at the bench as he sang.

Like a friend I've always known
I'm arriving
And it feels like I am home

I have always been a fortress                                                                                                                                            Cold secrets deep inside

I joined the man in song, taking my place next to him.

"You have secrets, too," I said.                                                                                                                                               But you don't have to hide

"Show yourself"

"I'm dying to meet you"

"Show yourself"

"It's your turn
Are you the one I've been looking for
All of my life?"

"Show yourself

I'm ready to learn!"

Ah-ah, ah-ah

Ah-ah, ah-ah-ah

I placed my fingers on the piano and began to play along. The tempo increased.

I've never felt so certain

All my life, I've been torn

But I'm here for a reason

Could it be the reason I was born?

I have always been so different

Normal rules did not apply
Is this the day?

Are you the way

I finally find out why?

Show yourself!

I'm no longer trembling

Here I am
I've come so far!

The man turned to look at me. His face was half masked by a porcelain mask. I sang alongside the Phantom of the Opera. I didn't stop or hesitate. I continued to sing.

You are the answer I've waited for

All of my life!

Oh, show yourself!

Let me see who you are

Come to me now

Open your door

Don't make me wait

One moment more

Oh, come to me now

Open your door

Don't make me wait

One moment more!

We both stood up and looked at each other. The music continued to cresendo until it reached the climax. Even though we stopped playing, the song kept playing. It seemed as if the muses of song wanted it to keep going. A ghostly chorus harmonized.

Where the North wind meets the sea
Ah-ah, ah-ah
There's a river
Ah-ah, ah-ah
Full of memory (memories, memories)

"Come, my darling, homeward bound!" he sang, caressing my cheek.

"I am found!" I replied.

Show yourself!
Step into the power
Grow yourself
Into something new

You are the one I've been waiting for

All of my life

All of your life

Oh, show yourself
Ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah
