Y/n's POV:

Life had been pretty good. Sofia had a great first christmas. And auntie Mer and uncle Derek got Zola back and they were able to officially adopt her. I was so happy for them and I could already tell that auntie Mer was going to be an amazing mom, even though she had worried she wouldn't for the longest time.

Right now, the residents, meaning aunt Cristina, auntie Mer, uncle Alex, April, and Jackson, were in San Francisco for their oral boards. But, apparently it's been rocky for all of them. I've checked in with all of them. April was loosing it (as told by aunt Cristina) and auntie Mer was down with a stomach bug. But, knowing her perserverance she told me she was going to push through it. Aunt Cristina and Jackson weren't doing as good as they thought.

And uncle Alex was just a whole other problem. Mama had to literally push him onto the bus because he wanted to stay back to help a patient. It was an intern, Morgan, and her severely premature and underdeveloped baby, who he had been helping since the beginning. He was reluctant to go because of the baby's status but eventually went.

While he was there, he found out that the baby was deteriorating and decided to come back to stay with Morgan through the baby's death and to make sure she was okay. It wasn't until mama told him she needed him as her fellow for him to decide and try to make his boards. So now, the 5 residents were in San Francisco.

Mark was dating a doctor from Seattle Pres, Julia. She was really nice and apparently they were pretty serious. But, even though he may not show it, deep down a lot of us knew that he was still in love with Lexie. But Julia apparently had other plans...

But anyways...

Today was a big day. Mama's childhood friend Nick was coming who she hadn't seen in years. I had met him when I was little but I only vaguely remembered him.

But I could tell that Nick's appearance was taking a toll on mama. He had called to just tell her now that he had cancer and I could tell it made her feel guilty that she hadn't reached out as much. And I could tell that it also didn't help that Nick was one of the only surviving people from her childhood. For the longest time, it was only her, my mom, my uncle, and Nick. And just the thought of him was bringing back all those memories, which caused mama to be really on edge.

While uncle Mark was dropping Fia off at daycare, mom, mama and I were heading up to meet Nick. I offered to stay out of it and just leave it to mom and mama since I knew it was personal but mama said she wanted me to meet him again.

In the elevator...

Mom: *Gasps* Julia wants to have a baby with Mark

Mama: *rolling her eyes* Oh, I can't even deal with that right now

Mom: Wow

Mama: *freaking out* I should've picked him up myself. I mean, I-- What's wrong with me?

The doors to the elevator opened and we started to walk out.

Mom: Okay, I thought he was your brother's best friend, not yours.

Mama: Well we were all super close, and he was Brooke and I's rock when Tim died. I just-- Oh, god. I let my rock take a cab.

Mom: Oh, so you let him take a cab

Mama: Well, I mean, listen, he just flew in from Tibet and he has cancer. I mean, the least I could do is pick him up at the baggage claim!

Me: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, okay. You need to relax
