Night watch always sucked, but Usopp was finally done. He no longer needed to stare out across the empty expanse of water before him and traded off his shift with Zoro instead, allowing him to go inside and get some rest. His eyes were practically already shut by this point, so it was a miracle he managed to maneuver himself back inside in the first place. He could not go to bed yet though. There was something he wanted to check in the workshop before he granted himself slumber, so he gave his head a good shake once he was inside and forced his eyes open to make his way there.
He had to pass through the aquarium bar to get there, but upon entering, his trip was cut short. From the corner of his eye he saw a lump covered in a blanket sitting on the couch, and curiosity struck him. Everyone should be asleep right now except for him and Zoro, so he wandered over to see which of his crew mates was curled up on the couch for the night. Upon getting closer, when he saw the book hanging loosely from tired hands, it was a dead giveaway that it was you -his goofy partner- who passed out on the couch.
"_______, what are you doing out here?" He asked groggily.
You did not respond. You were out cold, no sound he made being enough to rouse you from your slumber. It was a rather uncomfy looking position that you had passed out in too, so he deemed it appropriate to wake you even if you were unresponsive at the moment. He gave you a few nudges to try and wake you, the last couple being a little more of a shove than a nudge. That was finally enough to pull you from your slumber with an aggressive snort, looking around completely disoriented and unaware of your surroundings.
"Where... Where am I?" You asked dumbly, voice barely above a whisper.
"You passed out on the couch in the bar, dummy." Usopp chuckled.
"I did? Oh... I did. My page! Did I lose my page?!" You then fretted, your mind jumping all over the place as it struggled to bring back your memories.
"You're fine." Usopp said, taking your book from your hands and marking the page. "I've got it here. Your page isn't lost, but your mind sure is. You need to go to bed."
"Oh, thank god. Wow I'm... I'm so tired. Aren't you on night watch though?" You asked, looking up at him.
"Was. Zoro switched with me. I was going to check my workshop for something, but I think you're of higher priority right now. I don't think you'll even make it to your bed like this." He joked, reaching down to pick you up.
You whined at his jest while he picked you up in his arms, cradling you close and making sure your blanket was tightly wrapped around you. It was like he was carrying a cocoon with how bundled up you were. Once you settled though, you nuzzled up against his chest, safe within his arms.
"Thank you... I don't remember how to get to my room right now." You mumbled.
"Told you. C'mon, you need sleep just as badly as I do." He sighed, carrying you off to your room.
He carefully carried you back to your room, trying his best to ignore his own fatigue. He felt as tired as you looked, but he was the only one awake right now that could ensure you would get a comfortable sleep. No matter how dazed he was, he wanted to put you first. It was just in his nature thanks to his never ending supply of love for you.
When he tried to put you down on your bed, to his surprise, you refused to let him go. There was a groan of protest, and he had to awkwardly toss your book down on the floor to have both of his hands free to try and pry you off.
"Hun you have to let go." He chuckled.
"No. I'm awake now and won't be able to sleep if you leave." You complained, gripping tightly to his bicep.
"I highly doubt that, actually." He commented.
"Please stay..." You then begged quietly. "Don't go. I don't wanna be without you right now."
The change in your tone side swiped him into a scarlet blush. You sounded so needy and on the verge of tears, but he couldn't see your face with how deeply burrowed in the blanket you were. Surely it must be your fatigue talking, because you normally aren't this clingy with him. But your grip said otherwise, especially when you swung your legs out of his other arm to anchor yourself and pulled him down beside you.
"A-alright, I'll stay." He gave in, already under your blankets.
"Good." You mumbled again, pulling yourself in close to him and hugging him like a pillow.
"Quick question by the way. Uhm... How long have you been awake? You sound... extremely fatigued." He asked you tentatively.
"Mmm? Ah... maybe two days straight now? I haven't slept since my last night watch." You answered.
"_______ that's so long..." Usopp scolded.
"I know... Please don't be mad. I just had a lot to do. I don't wanna be scolded by my love." You whined, clinging tighter to him.
"Gee, y-you're sure clingy when you're tired." He stammered, quite flustered by how tightly you held onto him.
"Not used to it?" You chuckled quietly. "I guess that's something else I need to apologize for. I'm too busy being strong to really show you how much I love you."
"_-_______..."
"Pirate life never lets up. Even now, it's hard to speak from how tired I am. But I'm thankful for being overtired honestly. It gives me a chance to just word vomit how much I love you. I don't get to say it often enough, and I should. I love you Usopp. Meeting you has been my life's greatest blessing." You said with a tired, raspy voice.
The poor man was thoroughly flustered. The strength he portrayed when he carried you over had melted away with your words, his heart pounding against his chest as he cradled you close to his chest. Your words warmed his heart.
"Wow... I can't believe I ever feared you rejecting me before. This is too much love even for me to handle." He huffed.
"Are you blushing~?" You teased, lifting your head enough to confirm. "Ahah, sorry~. I lost my filter loooong ago."
"No, it's fine. I don't think I'll ever get used to this, actually. But I like it. I don't mind. Tired you is somehow better with words than when you're awake." He chuckled.
"Heeey! Just you wait. When I wake up, I'll... I'll shower you with words so sweet you'll melt on the spot. I'll spend the whole day doing it if that's what it takes." You promised, your voice trailing off a little.
"Not in front of the others please..." He whined.
"No promises~" You giggled. "You'll stay for the night though, right?"
"I will, yes. You're getting harder to understand though, so I'll only stay if you get some sleep right now." He said.
"Deal." You yawned, resting your head on his shoulder.
You were quick to hold up your end of the bargain. Within seconds you let sleep finally take you back, the initial fatigue of being awake for longer than two days knocking you out cold again. Usopp knew you had finally fallen asleep for good when your grip on him loosened, your breathing and heart rate slowing greatly.
"You're insane... And I love you for it. I love you too, ________. I'll never regret finding the confidence to ask you to be mine." He mumbled to himself, resting an arm across your back while he too let sleep take him.
Both of you, worn from the day, slept together in peace beneath the blankets. The sea was gentle tonight, the waves giving you the grace of a sleep without violent rocking. It was much needed, and best to be shared with you and your sweet words.
