Shadows

Blood is not red, red is bright and foolish. Foolish in the sense that it calls out to everyone's attention to notice it, it's desperate and clingy. Clingy for all the passers by, unlike blood.

Blood is real mastery in disguise in the shadows. Shadows of its pride, not daring to seek for desperate attention because the attention calls for it instead. So prideful and determined to make you aware that you are its chaser and not the other way around. When it leaves you with its shadows, the shadows will absorb you.

Blood spilling across the edges of my knife down the floor, painting the ground with its victory of continuous lineage, Threatening to end it there in a careless work of art.

A work demanding a stop in time for those who travelled across the many years of fighting against time. But blood demands to take its power from time, it's far more dangerous than that. Something you can't fight or win against, you can't take or lose it. Entities of space filling up with blood can stop time. traveling is time and blood is the spaceship, without it time stops existing.

My spaceship is haunted by shadows and I can't make it stop, if I slow down I may get caught. The blood drips out of my ears and covers the edge of my knife, it's like my mind is getting drained and left with an emptiness.

Words keep echoing in the emptiness, songs that I kept playing over and over during the past few years keep echoing in the emptiness til I can no longer hear the tunes, dulling my mind.

My mind is dull, and I keep blasting music in my ears til they bleed in hopes of knocking some sense into it. So that it'd do its just job, to feel something.

I don't feel a thing. The hollowness is so deep that I'm scared I'll keep drowning in it, no matter how much I bled.

I was getting lost in thoughts with my headphones in until someone tapped me on the shoulder demanding their attention.

'There's a spot of blood on your face' said a young girl with ginger long braids looking scared and confused.

Oh shit, I must've forgotten to wipe the blood on my face coming back from surgery department today. I felt all the noise around me coming back to life as I was reminded that I exist.

'I'm a dental surgeon, I must've missed the spot as I got on the train from work.' I answered hurriedly to diffuse the confusion around my state of appearance as I reached for a small mirror I carried in my mini bag.

'You don't look so well, are you sure you're alright?' Said the ginger with a look of concern on her face.

I looked into the mirror before I paused to look back at the ginger to give her a reply 'I'm fine really' shit, I looked like I just murdered someone. How did I miss those spots.

'How could you miss all those spots?' The ginger was deep in thoughts about it as I looked around me noticing how everyone was giving me questioning looks of concern.

'You tell me? I have no idea, maybe I was just too exhausted from working' I snapped back at her snarky remark. I'd lie to say I wasn't intrigued by the ginger's blunt directness, and her overall look of baggy sweatshirt, sage green boots, knee short skirt to the little buttons in her braids and the frog necklace.

'I'm Stacy btw, I take this subway quite often to my work shift' she smiled at me in hopes I'd reciprocate, looking amused.

'I'm Rue, a dental surgeon as I mentioned earlier, it's nice to meet you' I smiled back not feeling so well about this encounter.

'You look and sound funny Rue, I like you. I hope to make friends' she said without a hint of hesitation which kind of frightened me. How could people not second guess themselves in social situations like these was beyond my comprehension.

'Sure Stacy, I can't promise you anything long term though. I have trouble with commitments.' I warned

'Jeez, I didn't ask you to marry me Rue. Loosen up will ya, life's too short' she snapped back in a snarky manner.

'Oh, I see. A sense of humor. Fair enough'

'Oh come on, admit it was funny and don't be such a party pooper' clapped back Stacy looking entertained

Stacy, if there's one thing you have to know about me is that, I have to own the stage of anything someone accuses me of lacking, which in this case was humor. So by asserting dominance I had to make sure to make Stacy think her jokes were unfunny. Even though I didn't have to pretend because they were unfunny.

'Call me whatever you want Stacy, I'll only laugh when the joke is funny'

'I admire your determination, but you're funny.' She couldn't finish her sentence as she bursted out laughing

'What now?' I asked in frustration

'You're really insecure, I'm not laughing at you don't worry' she reassured me ironically

'Very funny'

'Hah, gotcha!' Amused back Stacy to my defeat.

'Oh you only win, ironically' I clapped back

'I'm sorry what?' Asked Stacy as she burst into tears 'it's not a competition, but I love you, we'll make great friends'

'This is the last thing I wanted after you interrupted my music I was listening to'

'As if, I'm sure I'm saving you from your terrible taste in music anyway' Stacy teased while flashing me her bright smile

'It's my stop, I gotta go' I said while hurriedly pulled back from my seat

'See ya soon again'

'Sure Stacy, bye'
