In that moment, a promise was made.

"Ahh, so refreshing."

You took off your sandals, leaving them in a spot above the damp sand, and walked a few inches into the ocean water, where the waves came and went from the shore. The sun was nowhere nearly as bright as it was an hour ago.

It was just you now. People had left the beach earlier as it had gotten late —understandable because it was 7:41 pm— including your friends that invited you to the trip. You alone wanted to stay a little longer, so you did.

You took in the sight of the glimmering, calm water and the deep blue sky. Chills ran down your spine from both its beauty, as well as the gentle seaside breeze.

Exhale.

Your eyes closed, mind beginning to go back to a far away place. The sweetness in his smile. The sound of his laugh. And the warmth in his embrace. You missed him.

Three months after the promise you made together before he broke it, just like that. Where had he gone? Why didn't he tell you he was going? Why didn't he bid goodbye before leaving? How could he have just disappeared without saying a word to his best friend—to his lover?

Sure you were little, but you've known each other since you were four. That was seven years of getting to know each other and seeing the sides of one's emotions. You knew you liked him, more than anyone. But what if he didn't? Not anymore... Maybe that's why he chose not to speak to you before it all happened.

Five years later —now 16 years old, almost out of high school— and you still remember him and how you felt. A million thoughts ran through your head. You wanted to see him again. What does he even look like now? Probably as attractive as you predicted when you were a kid. He would always have that adorable and cute side of him, but maybe more mature.

"Where are you, Min?" You whispered, painfully looking out into the distance once more as the sun began to set, leaving an orange hue far, far away.

There was no one to hear you, or respond. It made you doubt if meeting the cat-loving, kind-hearted, loud boy, was possible.

"It can't be..."

That voice.

You turned around faster than he could blink, sparks electrifying you from head to toe, and there he stood.

Brown hair swept across his forehead, dark blue sweater, and the face of the little boy you fell in love with, except older. You couldn't believe it. Why was he here? How did he find you? Was it really him? Your heart raced loudly, locking eyes with his familiar one's.

"Y/n?" Minho took a step towards you, then another, until he was full-on sprinting in your direction.

You couldn't move. Your whole body had frozen and before you knew it, strong arms were holding you against a firm chest. It became silent—only the sound of the waves washing the sand could be heard, along with his unsteady breaths.

"It really is you... I haven't seen you for years, yet somehow, I recognized you almost immediately. I—I'm sorry..." he began to apologize, staring at the ground so you couldn't see him.

Tears brimmed your eyes. It felt warm again. Mixed emotions were running through your head, you weren't sure which you should be feeling at the moment. Happiness? Sadness? Relief? Anger? Disappointment?

None of it mattered anymore. He was finally here, hugging you, holding you tightly as if he longed to do this ever since he left. He used to do this all the time. It was one of your favorite memories to think about, and now you got to experience it once more. A true miracle.

"I missed you..." You let your tears fall in front of the person you were most comfortable with throughout your entire lifetime. "Why didn't you tell me you were going to move to another city? You left without me knowing anything—where you were, if I could visit you, or if you would come back one day... Except you didn't, and I waited for so long that I eventually gave up... You were gone."

Minho caressed the back of your head softly, knowing you always calmed down at his touch.

"I know... I was dumb for doing that. After my mom told me we had to live somewhere else, I couldn't figure out how to tell you. You would be heartbroken, that's for sure. So, I just didn't. I wanted to avoid having you cry and beg for me to stay when it was all useless... Now, I regret it. I wish I could have seen you and tried to stay in touch a little longer."

He slowly pulled away and raised one hand to your cheek. You haven't gotten the chance to see him up close like this, but now, you were sure it was him. And you were right—he was ethereal under the sun's final glow. His jawline was sharper, his skin golden like honey, and his eyes held the same loving look from when you were kids. It felt like a dream, only it wasn't. He was real.

"I have so many things to ask you, and so many things I want to say, but that can wait. Because right now, I need to know. Even though you broke our promise—" you took a deep breath to steady the beating of your heart, and met his dark brown orbs "—did you find out? What love truly is? And if you really felt it towards me? If you still feel it towards me, despite us separating for years?"

Minho showed a small smile. He gave a nod, and you began to listen.

"Yeah, I think I figured it out. That feeling of missing someone whenever you're not with them, thinking of them 24/7 because you can't get them out of your head, and believing that anything is possible since they are with you. I've gone through all of that already. Being able to see again is the best feeling in the world, because I'm sure of it now, y/n. I love you. I love you! I LOVE YOU!!!" He screamed with his whole chest.

Your tears continued to spill down your cheeks, but this time, it was out of joy. You haven't smiled so brightly in your life. Everything felt perfect again.

"My feelings haven't changed either. I love you too, Minho!!"

You wrapped your arms around his neck and connected your lips together, heart driving crazy in his hold. He rested his hands on either side of your waist. Heads tilting, your mouths fit just right. The kiss was strong, yet tender, and tasted sweeter than any candy you've had before.

When you pulled apart, the sun had barely slipped past the horizon, setting beyond what you could see. Twinkling lights spread across the dark velvet sky. Two more dreams of yours had come true at that moment.

Perhaps there was a shooting star up there somewhere — for it had brought you back the person you wished for most.
