It has been twenty minutes since we've been held up in the office. And I could feel my patience wearing thin.

Since we got here, we were interrogated by our principal like criminals. I sat there feeling extremely bad for that freshman, who was obviously scared and nervous, as she tried her best to answer Principal Oaklans' questions without stuttering.

Jemma, on the other hand, was calmer and relaxed since this was not her first time being sent to the principal's office.

I had never been sent to the principal's office before, but I was not guilty of any wrongdoing. So, why should I be afraid when I haven't done anything wrong?

This thought was what kept me cool as a cucumber as I watched the veins on principal Oaklan's forehead grow more visible until it looked like it was going to pop.

I sat in my chair and observed my surroundings until it was my turn to answer questions.

The office walls were painted beige with awards and certificates hung all around displaying the school's past accomplishments. There was a huge wooden display case filled with trophies; in the corner to the left that was situated right beside the window. The sun peaked through a spot behind the light brown curtains and highlighted the display's case presence in the room. My eyes immediately were drawn to the gold trophies that shimmered to life as the rays hit them.

"Miss Castellanos?" a familiar male voice said, instantly bringing my attention back to the situation I was currently in.

"Huh?" I made eye contact with my principal, who was definitely annoyed by the fact that I was not listening to what was being said.

My principal took a sip from his cup, of what appeared to be tea, and crossed his arms over his chest. "Earlier, I asked if you were ready to begin the questioning. But, you clearly didn't hear that since you weren't paying attention." The sass and annoyance in his tone were ever-present.

"I'm so sorry, sir." I pleaded, which seemed to calm him down as he relaxed his brows and took another sip from his cup.

A couple of minutes later, after listening to our statements. Our punishments were finally dished out.

Jemma got suspended and the freshman got off scot-free, which she deserved by the way.

Meanwhile, even though I was praised for intervening during this situation; West Bridge High does not condone the use of any kind of violence, be it self-defense or otherwise. Hence, I had to volunteer some hours of my time to any activities the school may have.

Activities like what, you may ask?

oh... let's just say a certain activity like the winter formal that was soon coming up.

What my principal didn't know was that I had already signed up and volunteered my time for the formal. But, he didn't have to know that so, I accepted my punishment in peace.

With everything being said, he dismissed us and we were finally able to leave.

I grabbed the bag that I had left in the waiting room and was about to leave when someone stopped me.

"Hey," the girl said awkwardly. "umm... I just wanted to thank you for standing up for me back there.  I'm Isabela, by the way." She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her left ear and offered me a shy smile.

"It's okay. My name's Mila." I returned her smile wholeheartedly.

It was at that moment when I heard the door open and in walked three boys.
