Honestly, he had been somewhere between relieved that he wouldn't have a desire to murder Scott anytime soon and concerned about his niece when Piper had mentioned they had broken up. But he managed a smile as he saw her take the rather stressed looking alpha's hand.
"What is that look?" his niece wondered.
"You're gonna be good at this," he assured Scott.
"Are you kidding? I'm totally unprepared. Remember how you said you could teach me a few things? I think right now I could use a full-on training manual," Scott told him.
Derek shrugged. "I thought that was her job," he reminded, nodding to Ayla.
The she-wolf sent him a look. "You know, I am not a built-in beta-babysitter for idiot alphas," she snapped.
Derek managed a chuckle, knowing that was just as much directed at him as it was Scott. But the current alpha frowned at his girlfriend for that comment. "What? You're both idiots. You're just unfortunately my idiots," Ayla told him.
"Thank you," Scott muttered as she smirked at him. He turned to Derek. "Still waiting on that advice."
The man shrugged. "I'll tell you one thing. That anger he's got? It'll make him stronger," he said.
"And dangerous," Scott guessed.
"Very," Derek agreed.
Scott took a seat on the nearby bench, and Ayla sat down next to him. "This was supposed to be the semester I could focus on school again," he told them.
"This was supposed to be the semester we could all focus on school again," Ayla corrected. Her uncle sat down next to her as she spoke.
"Yeah, but Kate's back. And I've got a beta. And there's a deadpool," Scott reminded.
"If all our names are on that list, then that's what we should be focusing on," Derek told the teenagers. "Do you think Lydia can get the second key?"
"She's working on it," Scott told him. Ayla frowned. The banshee had been working on it all weekend, and they still hadn't gotten anywhere.

They knew of at least two people on the deadpool who had been killed. After looking at the pictures of one of the victims stab wounds, Stiles realized that she had been killed by a knife in a lacrosse stick. And with that information, him, Scott, Ayla, Piper and Kira all went to work checking all the school lacrosse sticks for a knife hidden inside them.
"This... this is pointless. Most of the team plays with their own gear," Scott told them.
"Maybe instead of trying to find a lacrosse stick with a hidden dagger in it, we should be trying to get the game canceled?" Kira asked.
"But this is your first game," Piper reminded her girlfriend. Kira had ended up on the team after Coach had seen her catch a ball heading straight for her girlfriend at tryouts. And while the kitsune found her girlfriend's support sweet, she still sent her a look.
"Your priorities are great, Pipe," Ayla muttered.
"She's not exactly looking at it the right way, but she's right. The game needs to go on. It's the best way to catch him red handed," Scott told them.
