"Because I don't think Kira is human. I don't know what she is, but someone has to help her," Ayla told him.

Chase frowned at her. "Then why does it need to be you?" he asked.

"Because Mom would've done the same thing," she said and got out of the car. She walked up to the house and went inside, but Chase just remained in the car, watching her go.

He gave a sigh. "Damn it, Laura," he muttered, before finally getting out of the vehicle.

He walked inside just in time to hear a door slam. Kayla was standing in the living room, and sent her brother a look. "What'd you say?" she asked, arms crossed over her chest.

Chase glared at her. "You do realize she could have gotten herself killed, right?" he wondered.

"You do realize that she is okay, right? Chase, she is just as stubborn as you are. Yelling at her for what happened isn't going to make any difference," Kayla reminded.

"So I'm just supposed to not say anything?" he asked.

"Or you could try actually talking to her for once," Kayla informed him.

"I did talk to her," he told her.

"I meant like an adult and almost adult, and not like she's still five years old," she told him.

The two siblings frowned at each other, but both heard cursing coming from Ayla's room. Chase shook his head, moving towards the bedroom. Kayla stepped in front of him, stopping him. "I'll deal with her," she decided, going back to her niece's room. She gave a knock on the door.

"I'm going to bed, Dad," Ayla yelled from inside.

Kayla pushed the door open, finding the teenager sitting on the floor next to the bed. "Not your dad. And are you seriously cussing out a cat right now?" she asked, walking inside.

"The little asshole won't come out," Ayla explained, leaning down to look under the bed. Lucy's yellow eyes shined in the darkness, and he hissed at the she-wolf. "Yeah, I hate you too."

Kayla rolled her eyes and sat down on her niece's bed. "You realize he's not actually mad, right? He's just worried about you," she told her.

Ayla frowned. "I know," she admitted.

"We already lost your mom. We don't want you getting hurt," Kayla reminded.

"I know," Ayla said, turning to the woman. She sighed. "Look, hopefully Derek will be back in a few days and Dad can go right back to not having to worry about me."

Kayla sent her a look. "He's your dad. He still worries about you. He just trusts Derek to keep you from getting yourself killed," she told her.

"Look, I'm not dying anytime soon. So can we just drop it for tonight?" Ayla asked, standing up. She moved to the closet, beginning to grab clothes to sleep in.

Kayla sighed. "Fine. Get some sleep," she told her niece, leaving the room. Ayla frowned once she was gone, thinking over the night. She wasn't sure when it had happened, but she suddenly noticed that Lucifer had came out of hiding. He looked up at her with yellow eyes, and she sighed.
