Ch. 3 Galvanize

The she-wolf sighed and turned back to her ex who had began pouting.

A half hour later, Ayla sat in the passenger seat of Piper's car with the grey kitten in her lap. Cat food and anything else Deaton had thought they would need sat in the back of the car. The Hale leaned against the door as she placed her phone to her ear.

"Hey, Piper okay?" Scott asked.

"For now," Ayla said, sending her ex a glare. Piper just smiled innocently.

"What does that mean?" Scott wondered.

"It means that I have a cat now," Ayla responded.

"Seriously?" he questioned.

"Unfortunately. And if he makes me bleed one more time, he's being declawed as well as neutered next week," Ayla said, glaring down at the feline. It hissed at her in response, almost as if it understood every word she had said.

Scott chuckled. "What's his name?" he wondered.

"What's his name?" Ayla repeated the question to her ex.

Piper glanced at the cat, before returning her eyes to the road. "He kind of reminds me of the evil cat in Cinderella," she admitted.

Ayla sent her a look. "We are not naming him Lucifer," she snapped.

"Why not?" Piper wondered.

"You know exactly why not," Ayla told her.

"Sweetie, we're going to hell anyway. I don't think it matters," Piper argued.

Ayla scoffed, shaking her head. "Why did I even answer your emergency text?" she wondered, more to herself than to her ex. She could hear Scott laughing over the line. "So, uh, yeah, we're fine," Ayla told the alpha.

"Good to know," he said. Ayla could practically see the crooked smile on his face as he spoke.

"I'll see you tomorrow," she told him, managing a smile of her own.

"Yeah," he agreed.

Ayla hung up and turned to her ex as Piper put on her turn signal. "Oh, no. You're not turning. You are still getting my Starbucks."

Claws swiped out at Ayla as she reached under her bed the next morning. "I'm trying to feed you! Come on, work with me, Lucy," Ayla snapped at the feline. She even showed him the plate of cat food, but he just continued to hiss at her from where he hid under the bed.

Ayla gave a sigh of defeat and sat up. "You know what? I'm starting to think you're name is fitting," she muttered, sitting the food to the side.

She heard a knock on her door and looked up at her father. "Still not getting along?" he wondered.

"Please get him to eat while I'm at school. If he starves under my watch, Piper will kill me. And given how rude he's been today, I wouldn't put it past him for his little cat spirit to come back and haunt me," Ayla told him.
