the front door opening pulled sequoia from her thoughts, making her feel slightly on edge. her tension relaxed after she saw her father's figure walk through the door and sequoia returned her gaze back to the window, still confused about the situation.

the teenage girl wanted to change into different clothes, seeing as her current ones clung to her sweaty body. pulling herself upstairs, she could hear bella talking to someone on the phone. sequoia knocked lightly and opened the door to a slither, enough to poke her head through.

bella hung up the phone, in much distraught, "what do you want?"

"i just need to grab some clothes," defence was written through sequoia's tone.

"wait!" bella pleaded, "can we talk?"

sequoia may have even read a genuine look on bella's face, causing her to sigh and give a small nod to her sister.

"what do you know about the cullens," the look on her face had now gone serious, "i saw you sitting with them at lunchtime."

of course, bella doesn't actually want a nice conversation to her older sibling.

"why was edward acting weird towards me?" a look of hurt spread on her face, "i think he feels as if i stink,"

the older seventeen-year-old couldn't help but let out a small laugh, "maybe you should do something about it."

"sequoia, i don't want your stupid jokes," bella expressed, crossing her arms in annoyance.

"well bella," the girl mimicked her sister's tone, "i don't know."

"ask him then."

"ask him yourself!" the siblings' voices have now raised significantly, causing their father to barge in the room.

"sequoia stop this nonsense," charlie directed his scolding at his first-born daughter, "go back downstairs."

sequoia squinted her eyes at the chief, not bothered to start another argument, she walked off.

the next day at school, bella didn't walk off. instead, she waited and watched the cullen family get out of their car. much to her disappointment, her beloved edward didn't appear.

"oh look at that, you'll be able to spend more time sulking," sequoia winked with a smirk on her face and walked over to the newly arrived vampires.

at lunchtime, bella kept watching the empty space on the cullen's table. jealousy radiated off her towards her sister.

"why does sequoia sit with them?" bella asked her friends, hoping for an answer.

"no one knows, she seems like such a nice girl too, a shame she wastes it on them," a brown-haired guy responded, looking at sequoia.

sequoia was chatting with rosalie, each laughing every so often. bella couldn't help but scoff.

her? nice? she's anything but that.

oh, how sequoia wanted to walk over and pour out all her emotions. why should bella be jealous of her? she's got everything sequoia has wanted, love from charlie, a human life, a mother. she found it ridiculous and unfair how bella could be upset over a boy she had barely talked to. sequoia wanted a life like bella's, if she skipped her awkwardness. the older sibling has almost given up on trying with her biological family. they never cared, why should she care about them in return?

that sentance constantly replayed in sequoia's mind yet, she could never fulfil it. she doesn't want to be a person like bella or charlie, she's lived through their actions and feels dreadful about it. living it first hand, she's felt as if she would never stoop down to their level.
