The bus ride was mostly uneventful. You sat next to Dib the whole way, Zim sitting in the back staring out the window. The two of you shared glances here and there and you made sure to look away quickly every time. You dozed in and out of a daydream the whole time, while Dib read myths about the loch ness monster on his laptop. You watched the city turn to trees as your bus made its way deeper into the forest. The smooth city roads turned into bumps and dirt as the bus chugged along.
You had never been camping before and you had to admit it sounded exciting. City life had its perks but you were exited to take in the fresh air and change of scenery. After a wildly eventful past few days a change is exactly what you needed. However, you were also prepared to stop Zim if he did indeed have something nasty planned for this trip.
The bus trip lasted only a few hours and soon the dark forest had cast shadows over the ground creating an eerie feeling that made my hair stand up on the back of my neck. "Alright children, grab your packs and tents from under your seats and get off," Ms. Bitters yelled from the front of the bus. We all hustled and grabbed our stuff and one-by-one filed off the bus.
Two park rangers stood proudly outside the bus waiting for us all to make an appearance. The bus had stopped at the entrance to the park. To the far right was what looked like and old disheveled cabin with a sign that read: Park Information and Ranger Station. It looked like it hadn't been used in 50 years. We all gathered around in a circle in front of the park rangers and awaited instruction. "Welcome children! We are excited to have you here today. My name is Chuck, and this here is my partner Craig. We've been managing this here park for 30 years together and we are confident we can get you through this trip in one piece," Chuck said while giving a chuckle, clearly amused by his joke. The rest of the class stood silently, eyes all over and darting towards the trees.
Chuck and Craig spent the next half-hour going over safety rules and tips for navigating the forest. As they were droning on you glanced over the class to see everyone else's expressions out of boredom. More specifically, you wanted to see Zim's expression, who you thought would be undoubtedly bored out of his mind listening to humans drag on about rules. You were surprised to find that Zim was nowhere to be seen. You glanced over the class again, and then again, and then again. No Zim in sight. You gave Dib, who was standing next to you, a side eye and he understood immediately.
Finally the ranger's lecture was over and the class was able to look around for a few minutes as the rangers prepared to take us into the forest. "I don't see Zim anywhere," you said to Dib. "Me either. He's up to no good I'm sure of it," Dib said looking around frantically. "Or not," you said pointing to a spot a few feet away where Zim certainly hadn't been a moment early. Zim stood looking completely relaxed and acting as if he had been there the whole time. "Guess he's starting his next evil plan early," Dib said giving Zim the side eye.
