Jess' Pov

Poppy eventually finished cleaning the rig with the candidate's help and all 3 of us headed home.

"I can't believe I broke a nail" Poppy says from the back seat as I drive the 3 of us home

"I can't belive you won't shut the fuck up" Liam says annoyed

"Ellie will need a walk tomorrow morning but this evening I think we can just let her run around the garden" I say attempting to change the subject

"I'll come with you" Liam says "it's been a while since I walked her with you"

"What time will you parents be home tonight?" Poppy asks

"About 8am tomorrow morning I answer as I pull into the drive only to find 2 girls on the front porch.

Ruby and Imogen

"What are they doing here!" I say spinning round in my seat to face poppy

"They though I might want some company and to talk about this stressful day" she says casually starting to get out of the car.

But I'm one step ahead of her and walk up to the porch before her.

"You need to leave" I say crossly

"No they don't, I live here too" Poppy says rushing up behind me.

"I don't give a damn who lives here but I do care about the global pandemic we are currently living in" I say turning on her

"I'll bet that's why you wanted to know when Gabby and Matt will be home" Liam says coming up behind me with both our school bags

"The pandemic is practically over stop complaining Casey" Imogen says

"Yeah we're perfectly safe" Ruby adds

Sometimes I wonder how those two ended up in top set

"My parents are first responders they are more likely to catch Covid so unless you want Covid I recommend you leave" I say shoving past them to unlock the door

They both roll their eyes and walk off and Poppy, Liam and I walk into the house.

"Not cool Jess" Poppy says not aggressive like she usually is to but just annoyed

"I'm sorry but we really can't take any risks" I say genuinely sorry.

She nods her head and dissappears off upstairs.

Ellie is pawing at me I can tell she wants to go out, so I grab a blanket off the sofa and open the back door.

Ellie bounds out the door she always has tons of energy after being inside all day.

I don't share her enthusiasm and shiver slightly in the cold evening wind. I opt to sit down on the new garden furniture dad built last summer wrapping the blanket around me tightly watching the ball of black and white fluff run around the garden.

"Thought you could use a drink"

I look up and see Liam holding two mugs of hot chocolate and smile

"Have I ever said how much I love you" I say taking a mug from him and making room for him under the blanket.

He wraps his arms around me and we sit in a comfortable silence. My head leans on his chest and I listen  to the steady beat of his heart. It calms me knowing he's here with me.

He probably doesn't know it but he's done so much for me. I am so grateful that I have found someone who cares so deeply about me.

We're interrupted from our comfortable silence by the doorbell.

I disentangle myself from Liam and make my way in. There the sound of feet behind me, of course Ellie has followed me in.

I smile to myself as I turn the doorhandle.

But my smile soon disappears when I see who's behind the door...........
