"Umm, do you remember my mother? I couldn't lie without her knowing and the woman was scary," Ayla told her.

"For you maybe," Piper responded.

Ayla shook her head. "Only because you blamed me for everything," she reminded.

"Because then she couldn't ban me from the house," Piper told her.

"She loved you too much to ever ban you from the house," Ayla told her.

Piper nodded, sighing. "I miss her," she admitted. Laura Hale had basically been her other mom since she was thirteen. The woman would've never kicked her out. She had quickly caught onto the fact that Piper didn't have the best relationship with her parents. For that reason, she had always understood why Piper constantly wanted to be at their house.

"Yeah, me too," Ayla mumbled. Piper hugged the other girl to her for a moment, before sitting up a little. She leaned forward, connecting her lips to Ayla's. The she-wolf kissed her back, moving a hand to her cheek.

And that was when a knock came at the door. Both quickly pulled away and pulled Ayla's comforter tighter around them as the door opened. Ayla glared at the beta who was standing there. "Isaac, we've talked about this," she snapped.

"I knocked," he reminded.

"You're supposed to wait on an answer," Ayla hissed.

He rolled his eyes. "Would you rather I not warn you that Derek is about to come in here if you don't get up soon?" he asked.

"Thanks for the warning, now out," Ayla said, shooing him away. Isaac left the room and the two girls got up to get around for the day.

Both girls got dressed and ready for school. Ayla sat her hair brush down, checking herself in the mirror to make sure both her dark hair and her makeup were good. "I'm gonna go check on Cora," she told Piper.

The other girl nodded. "Guess I'll entertain myself," she told her.

Ayla rolled her eyes and left her bedroom. She walked down the hall and to her aunt's room. She gave a light knock. "Yeah?" she heard Cora call.

She opened the door poking her head in to see that Cora had also gotten around for the day. Her dark hair was pulled back and she had on a pair of leggings and a sports bra. "I was just seeing how you're doing. I'm about to head to school to keep an eye on Isaac," Ayla explained.

"I'll be here," Cora told her.

Ayla frowned. "I'm sorry I haven't gotten a lot of time with you. I've been trying to let you rest up," she told the other werewolf.

Cora nodded, sitting down on her bed. "I know," she said. She sighed. "You know, I was so happy when I heard you were alive. That Derek was alive. Then I get here and he's... well, I guess you know. And my former best friend is nowhere in sight," she admitted.

Ayla looked at her for a moment, considering her words. "Derek's not perfect. Most of the time he doesn't actually know what he's getting himself into. But he'll do whatever it takes to protect his pack, and that includes you," she told her. She then sighed. "And that little girl who was your best friend has been gone for a while now. I'm not sure when she left, whether it was the fire or losing her mom. Either way, I'm not her anymore. But I don't think you're the same either after seven years."

Cora frowned at her, but Ayla said nothing else. She left the room and walked back to hers.

Not wanting to just hide away in Ayla's room, Piper wandered out and into the kitchen. She opened the cabinets, finding the bowls and then the cereal. "Ha! I knew Ayla would never change," she said as she pulled the Froot Loops out.
