With a bit of a stumble, the golden state managed to climb his way up the steps to the abandoned house. Quite the challenge considering he wasn't exactly sober.

As he reach the top, New York quietly trailed behind him, sipping from the bottle he may or not have stolen from some random state at the statehouse. He swayed in his spot as he watched Cali kick open the door.

"So, you've been here a couple of times?"

"Yep, found it pretty recently too. It's in pretty good shape for being abandoned, some of the lights even work."

Finally, the door burst open. From the outside, it did look pretty ominous with no light coming from inside. But that was quickly fixed as Cali ran it to turn the light switch. Inside was an oddly comforting scene. If it wasn't for the outside, the house almost would've looked like your average, cozy, little home. Of course California had cleaned it up a bit when he first found the place, but that didn't change the fact.

New York still followed behind Cali as he plopped onto the sofa in front of them. They were understandable exhausted.

Arguments weren't exactly rare at the statehouse, but that didn't make them any less excruciating at times. Tonight for example. Neither of them could fully make out which states were involved in the discussion, but what they did know was that it was heated enough for the two of them to sneak out with a reason.

Slowly, California got up from the couch to make sure no one else had been in the house, leaving New York to sit there and think. A small grin crossed his face as he thought of an idea.

...

As Cali carefully checked every room, he could here quiet music playing from the living room. York must be playing something on his phone. He continued onto the next room ahead, just barley being able to make out the lyrics.

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour,
but heaven knows I'm miserable now.

As he finished, he walked back down the hallway, and heard the song playing just a bit louder. He saw New York gently swaying to the beat in his socks. Sliding side to side on the wooden floor.

"In my life, why do I give valuable time," York quietly hummed.

California couldn't help but smile at the sight. He walked on over, before New York reached out and offered his hand. Cali gladly took his hand, being swept into a soft twirl as soon as he did. He couldn't help but laugh just a bit. Every step they took was more smoothing than the last, perfectly syncing with each others gentle movements as the song continued in the background.

Two lovers entwined,
pass me by,
and heaven knows i'm miserable now.
I was looking for a job and then I found a job,
and heaven knows i'm miserable now

The states continued until York could feel California's steps getting more weak. He looked down to see him almost completely leaning up against him, practically already halfway asleep.

New York lifted him up just enough to help the state back to the couch, now cuddling up against him completely. Not that he minded at all. With that, York leaned up against the golden state, caressing him until he and the song drifted away with him.
