Lily always was Thomas Shelby's girl everyone new that they ran the streets of small heath together they were the king and queen of small heath and nobody could deny that But all collapsed from there Lily remember the last warm hug she had embraced with Thomas she was angry he and his brothers had sighned up for the war but she new they would be drafted out anyways if they didn't Her eyes were glossy from holding back the tears that were forming and she didn't want their body's to part his arms untangled from hers and he cupped her face gently "I promise you I'll come back" "You better" she sniffed not wanting to cry "goodbye" he said before turning to walk with his brothers She didn't like how he used the word goodbye it made it seem like they wouldn't see eachother again and just the thought of it made her feel sick
When she had walked back home she finally let it out she cried in her mother's arms for what felt like hours she was scared for him although Thomas hid it well he was scared and that hug he held with her made him stay sane as he walked closer with his brothers
"Lily I'm back" her mother called as she walked through the door lily had heavy bags under her eyes she was still having restless nights thinking about the Shelby brothers out in war "I went to the doctor's today" lily tilted her head confused her mother had headaches and become more forgetful but didn't think it was that serious "They said something's wrong with my brain it's all mushed up there" her mother joked trying to make light out of the situation "are you alright did they give you medicine"lily rushed "They say there's no cure for it not here anyway" Her mother cupped lily's hand after telling her the news "were moving?" She panicked her mother shook her head a look of guilt panned over her face
Lily understood that her mother was sick and she wasn't getting better she didn't want to move but wanted to do what was best for her mother She began scribbling another letter addressed to Thomas She had written plenty of letters addressed to him before and she remembered when she got her first letter sent from Tommy her eyes lit up and she didn't dare throw it away but in fact kept it safely in her chest of drawers
Dear Thomas I've missed you so much I got your letter too and Polly and Ada are safe and so is little finn they miss you to I just wanted to make sure your safe you don't have to write back either Hows the boys is Arthur and John alright ? I've placed a photo of me in here for you to remember me since I've still got yours From lily

Lily didn't want to mention the fact that her mother was sick and that she and her were moving to a place that were offering treatment that could help her mother
Lily did her best to pack stuffing everything she needed into the sturdy leather bag she sighed delicately placing Thomas letter in before closing the bag bringing the zip all the way round the body of it She dragged the bag down the stairs her arms being Wade down she placed her bag beside her mother's "Right Lilly I've called the taxi so it should arrive soon is that everything" Lily shook her head before quickly running out the door ignoring the stares
She knocked on the Shelby households door hard hoping that someone would open it and soon enough the door flung open "Lily haven't seen you in awhile" Polly cheered gesturing for her to come in but lily only shook her head "me and my mother are leaving England, post this to Thomas for me" she shoves the letter in her hand Polly quickly shook her head nodding "but-" Polly was cut off "bye polly I'll miss you"she pulled her into a tight hug before pacing off
The taxi ride was long and quiet and lily could only look out the window at the place she called home taking everything in for the last time She was overwhelmed with the idea of moving but wanted to do what's best she hoped that Thomas wouldn't hate her hoped that he was safe
