Every single person in the room disappeared only to reappear when I've finished, when the song finally ended, that's when I could finally hear their clapping and cheering.
Daytona and Janelle were cheering the loudest along with Kevin who was smiling brightly as he claps his hands with everyone else. Mrs Robertson dressed in black and grey with jade green high heels and her necklace hanging around her neck, smiling gracefully at me, "Beautiful done, Ms Hawkins. Such a marvellous performance that you've present, I'm sure the judges will enjoy it as much as I have."
"Thank you, Mrs Robertson." I said breathlessly, smiling from ear to ear with my heart slowing down as I walked back to sit down with Kevin, Janelle and Daytona. Our practice was close to being finished after Stephanie and her partner shows their duet that they'll perform at the tenth leg of Spotlight.
Since my last two classes got cancelled due to family businesses for both professors, after practice I could just chill in my dorm room and complete two assignments and essays later.
I was so excited about performing my solo on Saturday that I couldn't sleep as much as I should have.
So, I was lying my head on Daytona's shoulder, to rest my eyes a little bit until I heard the beginning of Stephanie and her partner's song and - wait, isn't that how Symphony starts?
Daytona's body stiffens as my head shot up from her shoulder, being fully awake to watch this leopard snake dance my solo with her partner. Dancing every single move and step exactly like I've done before and every time Stephanie glances towards me, her lips curves into that snakelike smile of hers.
Causing my face to boil up, my legs uncrossed themselves, ready to finally behead the snake like I should have done weeks ago.
Lucky for Stephanie that Mrs Robertson stopped the music, walking forward till she was close enough to ask strictly, "What is the meaning of this?"
"Mrs Robertson, I wanted to speak to you before practice about Jennifer stealing my dance, because she couldn't come up with a solo for this weekend." Stephanie spoke sweetly, making me feel so sick that I was close to spill my guts on the wooden floor in front of me.
My anger lost control as I shot up from where I sat, walking four steps closer to her, wanting to be in Stephanie's face. Kevin's hand grabbed mine for a mere second before I shook it off, pointing my finger right at the blonde head with hot red strips, "That's my dance and you know for damn sure that it doesn't belong to you!"
There was a shift in the atmosphere in the room that's the same shift whenever you feel like two people were about to crash into each other. Causing people to get slightly excited, waiting patiently for the first blow and who's gonna end up winning the fight.
I should know that energy, I would either be part of the crowd watching or many of times, I was the one in the middle of the crowd fighting with whoever decided to mess with me or my friends.
But that's high school manners and I wasn't going to pull them out of the box, not in front of Mrs Robertson or Julia, they're both two powerful and talented women who I will not insult by starting a fight. Besides, Stephanie wouldn't stand a chance against me in a physical fight.
I shoved the thought back as Mrs Robertson turned her hand towards me, keeping the same expression as she had for Stephanie, "Ms Hawkins, will you explain how Ms De Tort was able to perform the first half of your choreography and claim it as her own?"
Being stared down by Mrs Robertson is like having a staring competition with a black panther, her eyes almost glowing with authority as the Head of this dance group as well as the campus dance deportment. If today was Saturday and we were at Spotlight with this, Sapphire might never be able to compete in its competition.
Not even after the penalty given to anyone who's caught coping another choreography or performance from any of the other dance groups.
