Whenever I think of him, there was this ache inside of me that was biting and screaming at me above 'Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do. Once I've started slamming the ball into the empty, brick wall, I've mentally blocked all calls and massages from everyone during the last hour or so, because I needed some head space to pull myself together again.
After the sixth count of repeating the song that was matching my whole mood flawlessly, I turn off the music and stroll through the folder on my phone where I've put all of the home made videos.
These videos were made by Dad and Junaid, videos of games nights, birthday parties, playing pranks on Becca, Johnny and Andy. There was a large amount of videos on me and Carter dancing for Mom's studio as well as her teaching lessons to us along with the other kids.
There were two of those videos that I would always watch whenever I was having a bad day, the first one is where Mom had Grandma come teach us everything about Hula dancing. The second one was me and Carter dancing to Lilo and Stitch 'He Mele No Lilo' which was my most favourite out of the two.
Sitting crossed leg on the wooden floor, watching my best friend and I dancing the Hula dance that we've done when we were about nine years old.
Hearing him laugh, seeing that bright smile of his as his chocolate brown eyes glow through the camera, caused my heart to smile and cry all at once. By the end of the song, Mom walked in wearing her favourite jeans with her black floral top with white and pink plumrub flowers on.
Hearing her voice was like smooth, sweet music singing in my ears, "Lovely guys, just lovely."
"Aunt Ivy, why did Heartbeat got six points out of ten for the Hula dance we've done?" Carter asked my Mom; he was still upset that the studio came in second place for the last competition that we've entered.
He was always the type who would do everything and anything to win, no matter what the price might be, as long as he's in first place. "The other teams dances weren't half as good as ours, and they don't have a natural star as their dance instructor."
Softly giggling at the nine year old Carter before Mom gently squeezed his cheek, "Those teams good as we were, Carter. And the judges were only doing their job at the end of the day, besides it's not every day that you watch a dance team perform a Hula dance at a dance competition every day."
Junaid turned the camera towards me who had her dark brown hair tied in two braided ponytails, still having the steel blue teeth braces that I've only taken out after turning eleven. "Mom, if we're the only dance team who has performed a Hula dance, why don't the others do the same?"
Watching my Mom kiss my forehead, remembering how soft her lips always were no matter what time of the day it is, "Not many dance groups do lessons on Hula dancing nor do they perform that type of dance for any dance competitions, because whenever people think of Hula dancing, they would think about parties and vacations.
They would rather get high scores for dance styles that people are more interested in, sadly Hula dancing isn't the most popular one of them all."
Hearing my Mom say those words have stacked with me ever since, I've always found it interesting that Hawaiian traditions and customs gets overlooked more than others. It breaks my heart knowing that this culture and heritage receive little acknowledge and attention.
Standing back on my feet, I played the song that I haven't danced to since I was nine years old, dancing to the beat of the drums. Remembering the pride, honour and happiness that was flowing through my veins I first done the dance in front of a room filled of people.
Grandma and Grandpa was visiting us for three weeks before going back to Hawaii, they sat in the front row, smiling and cheering the loudest for Heartbeat dancers representing their culture in a junior dance competition. Since the most highest and most respected competition wouldn't allow it.
