"Likewise, I guess." I told her with a laugh.

"Have you guys heard from Aro?" I asked.

My mum looked at Jane.

Jane's lips turned down slightly. "We'll deal with him, the volturi way."

I didn't know what that meant but it honestly frightened me.

It's then that I realised that there was someone else at the door.

I looked behind my mother and saw Alec. He wasn't standing alone. Sierra was beside him.

I saw Alec place a hand on her shoulder and then whisper something to her.

I furrowed my brows wondering how they had become so civil.

Whatever it was Alec had told her, Sierra nodded. She looked at me, gave me a small smile and a wave before I walking away.

"Why are you all the way back there?" I teased.

"Hey little human." He greeted as he walked in.

I immediately noticed that something was off. He wasn't his usual Alec self. His tone was lower and lacking energy.

Jane and my mum shared a look before getting up.

"We're gonna go, give you two some time to talk." My mum spoke, gently patting my hand before leaving with Jane.

I nodded at them and watched them leave.

"Hey." I spoke again.

The feeling that something was seriously wrong was even stronger as he walked towards me.

He sat down in front of the couch I was on and took my hand.

"You scared me, little human."

"I scared you? You're the one who got himself kidnapped." I teased.

Alec chuckled.

"Not my finest moment, I admit." His laughing died down and I looked at him in concern.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

Alec sighed. "The battle has been fought and won. And this is usually the part where the guy gets the girl."

He didn't look up at me.

Carlisle's question played in my mind again. 'Where do you see yourself in five years?'

I looked at Alec and thought about how much he had begun to mean to me in such a short period of time.

"I really thought it was you." He whispered.

"What?" I asked in confusion.

Alec looked up at me with a frown and a look of concentration.

"When I met you, I thought it was you. I thought you were my soulmate."

I thought about what he said and got even more confused.

"You're doing that thing where you don't make sense." I laughed uneasily.

"Are you breaking up with me?" I asked in a teasing voice even though I was serious.

Alec didn't crack a smile.

"Remember when I told you Aro sent me to Guinea on a job?"

I nodded wondering where he was going with it.

"The girl you heard in the background? That wasn't Jane. It was a vampire I know, an old friend. You see, she's gifted like your friend, Alice. She can see the future. I did go to her as a favour for Aro. But it's not his future she saw. It was mine."

"What did she see?" I asked really not knowing what Alec was alluding to now.

He sucked in a deep breath.

"He saw my soul mate."

I offered him a weak smile. "Let me guess, it wasn't me?"

"She described her as blonde, green eyes-"

"Sierra?" I asked in surprise.

He nodded.

I honestly didn't see this one coming.

"Wow." I spoke thinking back to how she hadn't let Victoria hurt him. To how he himself had almost killed her with a scary fixation.

"I didn't mean for it to happen this way, little human." Alec started blurting out. "I really did have feelings for you and I-"

"Alec." I spoke, getting his attention.

I sat up, wincing slightly at the pain and leaned forward. I took both his hands in mine and gave him a genuine smile.

"I am so happy for you."

Alec froze. "You don't have to -"

" I love you." I told him. "I really do love you. And that's why I'm so happy for you. I want nothing but the best for you."

"You've found your soulmate. Do you know how rare and beautiful that is? You deserve this."

Alec smiled at me. He leaned forward and placed a kiss on my forehead.

"You're one of the kindest people I've met, Sophie Lockwood. And you deserve all the happiness in the world, my little human. I hope you get that." He spoke.

I smiled at him. "Thank you."

I let out a yawn.

Alec got up.

"I'll let you get some rest."

With that, he walked away and I watched him not saying a word.
