Chapter 1

Skylar's Pov💓

My life is simple. Its nothing exciting but I wouldn't exactly say it's boring. I'm 24 and live alone in my apartment, I have friends, I'm pretty close with my family, I'm single, and how much simple could it get more then that. I'm from Chicago but I moved here to Savannah, Georgia when I was 18. My family also moved here about 3 years ago so it's pretty nice to have them here. So you see, my bestfriend Nate we had this plan, when we turned 18 we were gonna move to Georgia and well, here we are. Oh....Nate... don't get me started on him, I've had a crush on him for a while now but he can NEVER know. I feel like it would ruin our whole friendship if I ever told him. He could NEVER know.

Right now i'm pulling a shift at work. I work at this nearby cafe but it's only to keep me on my game while i'm in vet school. I plan to quit this job once I graduate from vet school and from there well....I guess we'll have to wait and find out. Ya see I had this dream when I was younger to make my parents proud and be the most successful black woman I could ever be, and well I guess I almost succeeded. I also volunteer at this vet and I go there every Monday and Wednesday and honestly it's the best thing i've ever done. So like I said, my life is simple but hey I can't complain.

As i'm taking this customer's order I notice Nate walk in. Literally every time I see his face I just get into my thoughts. " Hey... um hello miss?" the customer said to me. "Oh sorry about that.... you're having a small cappuccino and a glaze donut yes?" She nods. "Okay that's gonna be $6.42 please"

She hands me the money and as she does that Nate comes up to the counter smiling hard as ever. "Why are you so smiley?" I say to him as the customer walks away. " What.. is it illegal for me to smile now?" He said with a grin on his face. God he is just so fine I can't handle this. " Bro are you gonna order something or waste my time?" I asked him trying so hard not to smile. " Alright cause now you are ruining my happiness" We both started laughing. I swear there's never a dull moment when we're with each other.

" I came to ask you if you wanted to go to benny's tonight with me" He asked. Benny's is my uncle's bar, matter fact it's the best bar anyone could ever go to. We always go there with our friends. " eh today's Friday and I don't have any other plans so sure sounds good" I said smiling. "Cool I'll just pick you up from your place at 8?" He said. " yeah that's fine" He winked at me before walking out the store. One thing Nate always does is flirt with me and I can't help but think he only does it for fun because there is no way he could actually like me.

I clocked out of work at 6. I get into my lovely blue dodge charger and drive home. It only takes me about 8 mins to drive home from work so that's great. As I unlock my door and open it, my dogs Tessa and Milo run up to me licking all over my face. My apartment is actually pretty simple, it has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a nice living room and kitchen area.

My dogs are honestly what makes up my whole apartment. Coming home to them is basically the only thing that I look forward to at the end of the day. Sounds sad yeah I know.

It is now 7:30 and Nate is gonna be here shortly. I got out of the shower and quickly put something on and did my hair. I try not to wear anything too revealing to a bar but this was the only thing I could find.

One thing I can say is being a black woman is a huge flex. When I was in high school, I used to wanna hide my curves and wear baggy clothes but now I try to embrace my body as much as I can because there is nothing for me to be ashamed of. The lil white girls used to always talk about me and I used to cry about it but now... I'm a grown woman and I don't give a fuck what anyone says.

As I start refilling my dogs food bowls I hear my phone ring and I notice it's Nate facetiming me. I answered. " Speak" I said trying not to laugh. " and who in the HELL you think you talking to" Nate said while staring into the camera. I started laughing and said" negro you running up my minutes what you calling for" Nate starting bussing out laughing. " Girl i'm outside bring yo black ass out here" then hung up. Um...I don't like how he hung up on me that was very disrespectful.
