"Welcome, my new apprentice, to the library."
(Hitoshi)
"What's going on? Why am I here?"
(Juro)
"You are here because I brought you here. As of now I have decided that you will be my student and become the 11th son of the Grand Death family."
(Hitoshi)
"Grand Death family?"
(Juro)
"Yes... I am the 10th son of the Grand Death family, and like you I have been selected by my master to become the 10th son. Now you must learn all you can to take my place ..... as Death!"
(Hitoshi)
"But why me? Why not anyone else?"
(Juro)
"It has always been you. What all of humanity doesn't know is that the role of the Reaper is decides at the beginning of time and existence. No matter what you were chosen for this role by destiny!"
(Hitoshi)
-gasp-
(Juro)
"Do not be frightened.
This will all be yours when you are ready. Now, Let me give you a tour."
(Narrator)
Juro summons the Almighty Scythe of Death.
(Juro)
"This is the Almighty Scythe of Death created by God himself, so that we can do our job and reap the souls that can no longer stay in their human vessel. It also acts as the beacon of power that holds the library together, and can get you to any point within the library. Come, let us go to the front desk."
(Narrator)
As he taps the end of the staff they are instantly transported to the front desk.
(Juro)
"This is the front desk. This is where you will find the keepers of the library and they will help you with anything you need to find in any time or any place in this universe!"
(Female Voice)
" Hello Master, how can I help you this evening?"
(Juro)
"Nothing at the moment Rin, but I would like to introduce you to my successor. Okubo Hitoshi. Meet Okane Rin. You can think of her as sort of the manager over all the workers of the library."
(Rin)
"Wow. I knew it was coming soon but I didn't know it was this soon! Hello, I'm Rin!"
(Hitoshi)
" Hello my name is Hitoshi."
(Rin)
"Well Master have you showed him the River yet?"
(Juro)
"No I haven't I figured you could take him while I attend to another matter."
(Rin)
"No problem. Come on, let's go Hitoshi."
(Hitoshi)
"Alright."
(Narrator)
Rin and Hitoshi hop on one of the transport pads to get to the well.
(Hitoshi)
"Wow you can see the entire library up here. It's huge!"
(Rin)
"It's over 1 million miles long!" To be able to manage it we have to communicate with different sections of the library with their different section leaders. We are headed to section 1 now to see the river.
(Narrator)
The transport pad lands at section 1 right next to the River of time.
(Rin)
"Whenever someone is conceived, we automatically document that person and they get their own book in the library. Here at Section 1, they record this and send it to the other 9 sections surrounding the entire library. Each of them keep up with their section of books and if someone dies they immediately give the book over to the Master to reap the soul out of the human vessel."
(Hitoshi)
"Wow. This seems like a lot of responsibility. I don't really know where to start. How do the workers know when someone is near to death?"
(Rin)
"Well the book itself is only a log but it is connected to the human that it belongs to if the human starts to fade so does the book and before it fades completely, we jump in and reap the soul and see where it needs to go in the afterlife."
(Hitoshi)
"But what if people die instantly? How could you get to them before that?"
(Rin)
"Using the River of Time! The River itself controls the flow of time. In turn if you are the master or a guardian you can control time!"
(Hitoshi)
"Guardian?"
(Rin)
"Guardian Angels. There is a Guardian  Angel for every human on the Earth. And they can oppose the Master, if they believe that human should not be reaped at that time. But we try to prevent that if anything."
(Hitoshi)
"How come?"
(Rin)
"Because if they oppose it they have to challenge the Master to a duel and whoever is the winner decides the outcome of that humans soul."
(Hitoshi)
"Do the Guardians not like us?"
(Rin)
"No. In fact, they despise us. In all truthfulness the Master has never lost a battle but the ones before him have. That is why we decide a successor to continue the work. To make sure that the line of Death in this universe remain strong enough to maintain the position of the Reaper."
(Juro)
"Well explained Rin."
(Rin)
"Oh! Hello Master I was just explaining to Hitoshi how everything runs and works."
(Juro)
"Good. I hope you have a firm grasp of how things work around the library just remember you can always rely on the manager to help if you need it.
Now, the task that needed to be taken care of it's ready. If you follow me Hitoshi."
(Narrator)
Master Juro and Hitoshi return to the reapers thrown to check on a book that seems to be fading away.
(Juro)
"Now let's see."
(Narrator)
A screen pulls up and shows what is happening in the world where this book is connected to.
(Juro)
"It seems this one is about to pass that means we need to go and retrieve the soul. Come. Let us go."
(Narrator)
Master Juro taps the scythe on the ground and the instantly transport to earth where the scene in the book is happening. They are standing over a lake front where a man was just pulled out of the water.
(Juro)
"It seems this soul is about to pass. We need to go ahead and reap this soul."
(Hitoshi)
"How come they can't see us?"
(Juro)
"Because technically we are just as much of ghosts as any other soul that refused to be reaped."
(Hitoshi)
"Refused to be reaped?"
(Juro)
"Yes. Those who refused to be reaped turn into what we call poltergeist. And these poltergeist are spirits who refused to move on and have taken an angry turn with their afterlife. They usually continue roaming the earth in search of what they are looking for and as the reaper it is our job to reap them even if they do not want to be. That's why we set bounties for the poltergeist so that other reapers can collect them if need be for a reward. Most poltergeist can be weak but there are some that not even I can defeat.
(Hitoshi in his head)
"Not even he can defeat them?!?"
(Juro)
"That is where you come in. As my successor I expect great things from you. In this world filled with light and dark, you will be the balance between them. It will be by your word that anyone can be reaped. Even God."
(Hitoshi)
"Even god?!?"
(Juro)
"Yes. Even God will have to be reaped some day and when that day comes one of the reapers of the grand family will reap him."
(Male voice)
"How dare you talk about God in that way, thinking that you can defeat him!
What a joke!
(Narrator)
Out of no where a flash of light appears and a man in a suit walks out in anger.
(Ryota)
"My name is Furukawa Ryota and I challenge you in the name of God for this soul. It is before his time to leave this world and I will make sure he stays!"
(Juro in his head)
"Hmph, Damn it. I was hoping we could at least get through some of Hitoshi's training before we went up against a Guardian. Oh well. No matter."
(Juro)
"Fine, I accept your duel. Let me set the arena!"
(Narrator)
Master Juro taps the scythe on the ground and time stops then he taps it twice and they change location to an unknown realm.
(Juro)
"This barren realm should be perfect!
Now let's get this over with so I can reap that soul"
(Hitoshi in his head)
"Amazing! So this is the power of Death! The power that I could possess one day." I'll have to watch closely and learn everything I can before I can do this in my own!
(Juro)
"Are you ready? Because here I come!"
(Narrator)
Scene fades into darkness as the second chapter ends.
