Griffin's old truck rolls to a stop at the edge of the road where it meets the grass, which connects with the sand a few feet later. They leave, slamming the doors shut with a clamor just to make sure the locks engage on the hunk of metal.
"Here we are..." Griffin says, a genuine and excited smile appearing on his face as he looks right at Nate.
"I'm ready." Nate utters, looking much less excited than Griffin. There's anxiety crawling over his eyes as he scans the horizon, but Griffin makes him feel more secure.
Griffin smirks, scooping Nate up bridal style along with all the blankets. "If you need to turn around just let me know." He says, golden light from the setting sun falling on the beach as he carries Nate over to the boulder from before.
"Alright..." Nate says slowly as the water sloshes against Griffin's bare legs. He closes his eyes, calming his fears with deep breaths.
"...it's freezing." Griffin says, making conversation.
Nate only nods, resting his forehead on Griffin's arm as his toes dip into the water.
"You're so cute, you know that." Griffin smirks, lifting him a bit higher and soon setting him down on the stone as the sounds of waves crashing onto rocks surround him.
Upon opening his eyes, Nate sees a massive cove inside the boulder, with the only opening facing the sea. During the sunset, the whole cove is lit up by the reflections of the water, casting an orange hue over the rocks.
"Wow... this really is a good spot."
"See? I told you." Griffin says, climbing up onto the rocks. He quickly dries off his legs, rolls his pants back down, and wraps himself up in the blankets. "It is seriously cold, though. Like, getting into the water in the middle of winter is a horrible idea."
"Well, we're here now. Far too late to go back." Nate laughs, grasping Griffin's hand and pulling him onto the rocks. "Come warm up."
"Yes sir." He salutes, giggling as they settle down together, the bottom of the sun just reaching the edge of the Pacific.
"You know, this is barely any different from when we normally hang out." Griffin says slowly, looking over at Nate who's snuggling in his arms. At this point, they can see stars forming in the sky.
"...I mean, we have basically been dating for a while, then..?"
"Unofficially. I haven't asked you out yet." Griffin shakes his head.
"...I would like that." Nate says quietly, his face turning red as he looks at Griffin and his never-ending smirk.
"Oh, you would, huh?" The swimmer teases, "Maybe I'll leave you in suspense, then."
