"You want to hang out? Really? Weren't you just mad about that slice of pizza?" Griffin asks, gesturing at a slice of pizza that's still face-down on the floor.

"Yeah. I think we can get along if we try." Nate responds, keeping his voice steady.

Griffin seems to ponder the thought for a moment before shrugging. "Yeah, yeah. Let's go down to the beach then." He announces, swiping up a pair of swimming trunks. "You need to learn to relax, and I got you." He smirks, glancing out of the window.

"What about classes?" Nate asks slowly, watching Griffin carefully.

"Eh, I don't care." He shrugs again, "I'll only miss one class. What about you?"

Nate looks over is schedule, "Oh, I don't have a class till one... then we can go right now!" He agrees, opening up the school-provided closet to find the trunks he had packed away for another time.

"And for the record..." Griffin pauses, as if unsure whether to disclose this information or not, "...you're fine. Cool, even. I don't hate you."

"Then why..." Nate stops himself before he gets into another argument with the brunet, "...so, we're going to the beach?"

"Yeah. It's like, a Cannon Beach staple. The big old rocks and the beautiful sunsets. Plus, I know where to avoid the tourists like yourself."

"Right." Nate agrees hesitantly, as if unsure whether he should enjoy himself or not. He wants to, but it doesn't feel quite right to him being to... friendly with Griffin so soon already. "We won't be seeing a sunset today, though."

"That's all okay, Mr. Nathan." Griffin shakes his head, "Let's get going, then?"

"Nate, please." The boy reminds him, following him out of the door.

Nate shifts uncomfortably in the passenger seat of Griffin's truck

Nate shifts uncomfortably in the passenger seat of Griffin's truck. A truck. It was a bit beat-up, but Griffin's hands slid around the steering wheel with utmost care. He seems to take very good care of it, unlike his room.

"So, Nathan, what's your deal?" Griffin asks, his eyes shifting to him before focusing back on the road. "You came here from...?"

"Oh, Florida! My mom is a marine biologist, and we moved so she could work on this coast... apparently she went on vacation here once with dad and fell in love with the place." Nate admits, rubbing the back of his hand. "She's busy traveling with work, so a boarding school was perfect, I guess."

"Cool, cool. Everyone is this town is obsessed with the ocean in one way or another." Griffin smirks, as if it's all some big inside joke that Nate isn't aware of. "Me included..."

"You're obsessed with the ocean?" Nate inquires.

"Well, not the ocean exactly, but just swimming." Griffin sighs, emotions lacing his breath. "We are going to swim at the beach, right?"
