Two oneshots in a day, my friends <3

Sorry this one is slightly shorter than normal, but I hope it's still okay!

Scar stared around at what was left of the desert after the battle and the explosion. Memories of it flashed through his mind as vividly as if it were happening around him. The most painful of these was the moment Jimmy was shot. His cry of pain as he lost his last life still rang in Scar's ears. The panic Scar felt watching him collapse but not being able to help followed. Then, to add to the pain he already felt, he watched Grian get shot outside of the bunker, still unable to do anything but desperately try to hit those of the Red Army before they hit him.

Though Jimmy's death had hurt in the moment, what bothered Scar now was Grian's death. They had made a deal: Grian would be bound to Scar until he lost his first life. Now, Grian had lost that first life, and he was free. Though Grian was still here now, recovering from the chaos of the battle, he had every ability to leave. And what if he did? What if he didn't want to work with Scar anymore? Would he leave Scar behind and join another faction?

Not that he was at all a fighter in the first place, but Scar definitely didn't want to have to fight Grian after everything they'd been through together. Even though Grian was part of the reason Scar lost his first life, their time together grew into more than just a deal. It was a close bond, a dear friendship that Scar would hate to lose now. He could only wonder if Grian felt the same way, though. After all, Grian probably wanted to win, and staying with Scar was by no means the way to do that.

Sighing, Scar did his best to push those worries away as he headed over to the bunker to check on Grian. His friend was inside, getting himself set up with new gear to replace the items he'd lost when he died earlier. As Scar approached, Grian glanced up at him, murmuring an absentminded 'hello' as he crafted what looked like a piece of diamond armor. Scar stifled a shiver as he noticed the fresh scar on Grian's face, a painful reminder of the arrow that had killed him.

"How are you doing, Grian?" Scar asked, with a forced smile as he met Grian's eyes.

Grian frowned, clearly noticing that Scar's cheer was fake. "I'm alright. But are you okay?"

"Oh, uh, yeah, of course," Scar lied, internally panicking at what to do now that Grian was onto him. Part of him wanted to ask Grian about what he'd do now that he was free and get it off his chest. But another part of him was terrified of the answer, preventing him from saying anything.

Though he looked a little suspicious, Grian didn't say anything else as he went back to crafting armor and weapons. Scar lingered nearby, not sure what he should do. He tried to act like he was looking through chests, but his mind began drifting to his worries again and he ended up with it just open as he stared into space. The chest suddenly slammed shut in front of him due to a hand being placed on top of it, causing him to jump.

"Okay, Scar," Grian sighed. "You've been acting weird this whole time. What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I-" At Grian's unusually stern look, Scar trailed off. He sighed and started again. "Okay...I've been worried."

"Worried? About what? The war?" Grian asked, his stern look changing into one of confusion.

"Not exactly..." Scar murmured. He cast a nervous look at Grian, then went on. "I've been worrying more about you, I guess you could say. Since you lost your first life, you're free from me. You can go wherever and do whatever you want." He sighed, smiling sadly. "I guess I'm just afraid that wherever you want to be isn't with me."

Silence followed his words. Grian had his gaze on the floor so Scar couldn't read his emotions, and it was making him fear the worst. He opened his mouth to say something, anything to break the tense silence, but then Grian raised his head.

"No. I can't leave you, Scar, even though I'm technically free. I feel like it would hurt a lot more than I like to admit," Grian replied.

"Really? But I'm a hindrance to you. I can't fight, I don't know traps, all I can do is build with some shenanigans here and there. How will you win with that?" Scar said. He didn't know why he was arguing now. He'd gotten the answer he wanted, right?

"Winning isn't much of a goal anymore," Grian sighed. "It used to be, and it would still be nice. But I don't think I have the capabilities, and it's by no means because of you. I can't fight either, and my traps have hardly worked. At this point, all I want to do is survive and have fun, and that is something I certainly can do with you, Scar," Grian smiled. "Besides, even if it wasn't, where do you think I would go that would be different from what we have now? Dogwarts?" he added jokingly.

"I don't think anyone will go over there at this point. They're insane," Scar snorted.

"Agreed," Grian snickered.

Silence fell again. Feeling a sudden urge to hug Grian, Scar opened his arms and wrapped them around his friend. Grian stiffened in surprise at first, but relaxed after a heartbeat, returning the embrace. Scar let his worries slip away, happy that Grian would be content to stay with him. After a few moments, they released each other.

"So...I guess we're together 'till the end, then?" Scar asked.

"Together 'till the end," Grian agreed.
