« I know but..If..I talk to Hicks in September, while all the process, finding someone to replace me, my new team, we could work together until October » he says
« But I can't let you sacrifices for me... » she replies
He takes her hand
« Hey, I don't do any sacrifices, it's for us, I can't hide us from everyone anymore, I can't be under pressure at work everyday. If someone catches us up. I know it will ruin your career but not mine, just because you're a woman and I'll never let someone do this » Street said
« Stoppp... » she said, lowering her head
« Tell me I'm wrong !,
Tell me it wouldn't be easier if I leave the team » he asks
« ..Street.. » she said, taking a breath
« You worked so hard to get back in the team, I'm happy if you are, and this team makes you happy...» Chris said
« I can be happy without 20 squad but I can't be without you » He replies
She takes a breath trying to hide her smiles
« What I'm supposed to say after this » she asks
« That...you change your..mind ? » he said with an hesitant voice
She puts her head down, stays quiet for 30 seconds and then looks at him,
« I just...I just don't know what to say, I...I can't imagine someone taking your 26 David, taking your place next to me in black Betty, not working with you everyday. I...I trust you like I never...like I never trust someone in myy liife » she said
He stares at her, thinking about how his life will change, about how he's gonna miss their laughs in blackbetty, their talks in the locker room after shift.
« And we don't know, maybe your next team will be a B team so we'll never have shift together, when I'll get a day off, you'll work. Do you really think our relationship will be easier like this ? » she asks
He looks at her, damn she knows how to talk to him
« Thanks, now I don't know what to think anymore » He smiles at her
« I just think we should wait, see what will happen » She replies
He stares at her, saying nothing,
he knows she's probably right but he can't wait to be with her for real,
not only this little hidden moments.
« I should probably take you home, right ? » he asks
« Yeah, probably » she responds
They go back to the parking lot, hand in hand, and get on Street's motorbike.
They arrive at the parking lot of Chris's apartment,
they get off the motorcycles,
she looks at him and says
« Thanks you for today, and...think about what I said »
He looks at her, with this face he always do in their "motorcycles" talks and nods.
« Yeah.. » he answers
She kiss him, go to her building's door and
he looks at her until she comes in.
He takes his phone and decides to text Hondo
Street to Hondo: « Hey man, are you at home rn, I need to talk to you ? »
Hondo: « yeah, come, I put beers in the fridge. »
Street: « Thanks »
