Derives from the Welsh "aeron", meaning "berry" or else from the name of a river in wales. In turn this name derives from the Proto-Celtic "*agronā", meaning "carnage, slaughter".Agrona was the name of a goddess of war and death who was portrayed as a masculine figure in Welsh mythology.
