A week later, I could finally meet up with my dear best friend. I waited for her in a small café while sipping my iced coffee. Something felt off. I felt like I was being stared at or something. Maybe it's just me. I didn't give it a second thought though. Ayla's already ten minutes late. I hope she's okay.
"Miss, sorry to bother you but someone asked me to give you this cake" the barista said placing a piece of strawberry cake in front of me.
"Who did that?" I asked her.
"Someone just left after paying for your cake" she said.
"Okay thank you" Who could it possibly be? Don't tell me it's him?
Anyway, since I don't know who it is exactly and I'm kind of hungry I'll just eat it. While I was in the middle of eating my cake, Ayla showed up behind me scaring the shit out of me.
"I'm here!" she yelled.
"Public space!" I half-whispered and half-yelled back at her getting up.
Instead of saying more she just wrapped her arms around me tightly.
"I-I can't breathe!" I said hugging her back.
"Oups! Sorry!" she pulled back.
"You're late" I stated. She gave me a big smile before sitting down.
"My bad, I almost forgot we had to see each other" she said making my mouth go wide.
"You forgot when you were the most eager to see me huh?" I teased taking my place. She awkwardly laughs.
"Okay fine, I didn't get much sleep last night so I missed like two buses" she explained.
"It makes sense now" I said.
"Oh right, I should get something to drink as well" she said about to get up but I stopped her.
"I'm paying" I said immediately before getting up and making my way to order.
"Hi, can I get a caramel iced coffee extra caramel and a strawberry cake" I asked the barista.
"Of course, it will be ready in a few seconds" she said.
"How much do I owe?" I asked when she didn't say more.
"Oh, someone already paid for you" she said. Is this also paid?
"What?" How is that possible?
"I'm sorry—do you have any idea who the person was or what he looked like?"I asked her.
"He didn't mention his name, he was wearing a black hat, he had a leather jacket on and yeah...that's pretty much how I saw him quickly" she said.
"One last question, did he perhaps have a red or blue bandana somewhere around him?" I asked.
"Oh yes, he did have one around his wrist" she confirmed. Ya Allah, now I'm sure it's him.
"Okay, thanks a lot" I grabbed the cake and coffee with me.
What does he actually want to prove by doing this? I can perfectly pay for my things so what's his point? I was lost in my thoughts while I gave Ayla her cake and coffee and then sat down.
"Adalina? Why are you zoned out?" Ayla asked breaking my bubble.
"Mmh? Oh—nothing" I lied.
"What's wrong?" she asked again.
"I think he wants something from me" I spilled.
"Who are you talking about?" she asked.
"Aslan" I said.
"Who?!" she asked shocked at the name.
"You heard his name right" I confirmed.
I had to explain everything. From when I saw him in Australia to when he sent me flowers and paid for my food.
"Oh my god girl," she couldn't believe her ears.
"What should I do?" I asked getting anxious.
"What if he's still into you?" she asked.
"Impossible, I made sure to end everything back then" I said.
"So what? That doesn't mean he forgot about you, I'm sure he's doing all of this to show he still cares—"
"But I don't want it! I really can't see him again!" I exclaimed frustrated.
"Okay calm down, he won't bother you if you tell him...If he ever shows up and tries to get back at you well you know what to do" she said.
"I'm kind of afraid," I wish I could tell her why.
But I never dared tell anybody about what I witnessed that day and what I know about him that probably no one else knows about. Ayla still thinks I just ended what I had with him because I didn't feel good about it. And she thinks Fazal is still alive. She thinks he just disappeared.
"Don't be, you have to stay the strong girl that you are Adalina—don't become weak because of him okay?" she said. I nodded.
We spend a lot of time together. We went shopping after and then had dinner together before separating. She still wanted me to come over to her place and sleep over but I postponed since I just arrived a week ago. Once home, I kept thinking about him. Something sounds fishy and I'm sure about that. If I ever see him, I'm not letting him disappear from my sight before telling him to stop whatever he's trying to do. He's going too far. And he needs to let it go.
Ayla's words were ringing in my head. Don't become weak because of him.
She's right but every time he was around me back then, I felt like I was floating on a cloud. Every time he would slightly approach me, I would feel even more sensitive than I already am. It's annoying to feel like he still makes me feel the same. I just want him to never show up and stop his act. He has to.
