"It's dark right here. This is only the back door... I suggest we go to the center of the castle. It's both brighter, more comfortable, and safer." Herobrine pointed down the middle hallway.

"Pff, for you it is.."

"Says the one who just traveled several miles through the Nether with a baby on their back to reach me." He scoffed, walking forwards down the same hall he had pointed in... Fair point. You began walking after him.

"Alright, but please explain as we walk."

"Gladly. The faster I clear my name, the better."

"Wha?"

"Unlike what I am sure you have already brought into preconception, no, I didn't wipe your memories or anything. To be honest...I thought the things of that week would go unnoticed. Forgive me... I didn't think at all ahead in your sake." You continued to be silent. No way would you forgive him. He hasn't even explained himself yet! He seemed to catch onto this, and continued. "I once loved a woman named Heather... She was an Immortal, and it was like we were destined to be together."

"Huh" you made a noise, rather disrespectfully, but you already sort of knew this part anyways... and also you were feeling a little salty, finally being in the presence of someone you could finally blame.

"Anyways, um, she died." The man had taken note of your disinterest. "One day I realized I could wish her back for an entire week, so, of course, I did. I could feel her presence enter the atmosphere the moment her spirit entered you... Most Immortals have a mortal every generation or so who looks like them, though no mortal or Immortal has yet to figure out why... Anyway.. I arrived at her location as soon as I could. To my surprise, her spirit had only inhabited the body of a mortal who looked similarly to her... That mortal being...you."

"And so to celebrate you decided to abuse these fortunate situations for you, completely forgetting about anyone else who might be affected by it?"

"I wasn't even thinking at the time; I was just so glad I had Heather back!"

"Mmhmm.."

"...We, um... The rest of the week was just the two of us going on one last adventure together. It wasn't the same without her powers, but we still managed to save some mortals, stop a younger Immortal from f÷$#ing-"

"-Language."

"fricking  things up..." An annoyed side-glare from the man asked if this was going to be his life now. You just side-glared back, letting him figure that out for himself. "Hhh. So yeah, at the end of the week I finally said goodbye, and I was properly able to let her go without feeling the guilt that had been weighing on me for years...... Can I hold my child now?"

"Ay! He's more mine than yours! The only reason I even came here is because we would have ended up on the streets, and I would have had to put him into an orphanage."

"Oh, so this was a last resort... Why didn't you just put him up for adoption?- I'm glad you didn't, but, if you were really that desperate.."

"I just didn't want to." Was all he was ever going to get out of you about the matter. You two walked down the hall in silence. In the distance brighter lights shined, the hall opening into what looked like a living room.

"...Now can I hold my child?" He suddenly asked, sticking his hand out a little towards Steve, who's head had fallen on your shoulder in his sleep.

"Why?!"

"Are you seriously asking why?"

"Yes! It is a valid question. Why do you want to hold him so badly?"

"Because he's my son! I didn't even know he existed until a few minutes ago!" He shouted as you two entered some open living room with several older fashion couches and chairs to lounge around on, hushing himself a little late after hearing the little one begin to stir in his sleep. You pat the baby on the back a little bit, lulling him back to sleep.

"You know what? No!" You whisper-shouted. "You weren't there when he was born. You weren't there when he first started crawling. And you sure as heck weren't there all those times I needed someone to babysit him as I juggled two and a half jobs all day! No! I don't think you deserve the parent points! In fact, you're going to have to earn them!" You're just making things up as you go, but already you're liking the sound of this one.

"Wh?!"

"That's right! You have to do ten things! Ten parent points in total! Only then will I let you hold him!" You stood your ground there and you stood it firmly. The immortal's aura fluxuated rapidly, which you guessed signified some internal struggle. You could see it all on his face. One hand halfway reached out to grab the child for himself, but another part of him pulled himself back, agreeing with you and that he needed to earn that ability, since he hadn't even given you a second thought a year back.

"..-Fine." Both his fists dropped stiffly. "I get one point for being his father in the first place, though."

"Heyy, no-!" It was your turn to get a little angry.

"Too late. It's already been counted."

"Fine then, but all the rest of the parent points have to be approved by me, meaning you can't just make stuff up."

"Fine by me. It shouldn't be too hard to earn the rest." The mildest of smirks rose on the man's lips, again making your blood boil

"Ohh, just you wait and see." You attempted smirking back, however your steaming hot face made it rather unbelievable.

"Here, I'll earn a couple points right now." Mysteriously, the man suddenly vanished in a flash of white. You stood there for a second or two until accepting that he was gone and sitting down on the nearest chair. It had been a full day, but you hadn't realized how tired you really were until you finally allowed yourself to sink into the soft cushions. The sofa alone was already more comfortable than any bed you had ever owned before it. After just a few minutes, you found yourself laying down.

The flash of light suddenly returned, and so did Herobrine, who quickly scanned the room for you, finally seeing you were laying on the the nearest couch on your side with Steve still wrapped in your arms.

"Should I put his bed in my room or your room? And, um, what kind of bed?" He asked.

"Mm, he doesn't need his own bed. We got used to just sharing mine.." You spoke groggily, trying to wake yourself up quicker and be more alert.

"Oh, so, should I just show you to your room, then..?"

"M' fine here.... I mean...yeah." Forcing yourself to sit up, you rubbed your eyes before pulling your baby back onto your lap. Herobrine recognized you were about ready to pass out, so there was urgency running throughout him as you stood slowly. Once up, he quickly lead you by foot down a different hall to a room that was just a corner away, passing what looked to be a large kitchen along the way.

You two passed a plain looking door Herobrine briefly mentioned was his room. The next door down the hallway to the right was yours, its door also looking plain and simple: spruce wood. You couldn't help but smile in your tiredness as you entered after your tour guide. The bed was massive, and it looked like it had a really thick mattress too. Drapes decorated its corners, and all the bedding, curtains, drapes, and pillow cases were grey, though different shades. You pranced over to the bed and flopped right in. You set Steve on the bed beside you. You could so easily fit little Steve to the side without worrying about him ever falling off. Herobrine was already making his way to the exit of the room.

"Oh, and his name was..?" He asked, waiting patiently at the door for an answer.

"..Steve."

"Steve... It... fits him. Though, we really need to do something about that girly outfit." With that, the door was shut, for the first time in a long time you felt more peace in your situation than you had expected; and you hurried yourself and your child under the covers, all warn out and ready to get some rest.
