"-Oh, speaking of extracurriculars, what time is it?" You interrupted the conversation you had going on with a friend, hastily searching for your phone.

"6:27 PM." She replied after glancing at her watch.
"Why?"

"Shoot, I better get going, I'll be late for training again."

"You just can't go without running a dozen laps every day, huh?" She smiled.

"Well, not to brag but coach says I'm the best on the team." You gestured at yourself with a smug grin.
"I can't slack, gotta be in perfect shape for next season. See ya!" You waved as you parted ways at an intersection.

"Uh... isn't the field that way?" She pointed in another direction.

"I know a shortcut."

"But that street only leads to-... Wait, not through the black market, right?" She raised her voice anxiously.

"No fuss, it won't take more than two minutes." You tried to shake her off discreetly.

"Are you completely out of your mind?! How could you even think about that?! Especially after sunset!"

"Aw, c'mon, won't be my first time doing this." You looked back at her.
"It's cool, only a couple turns."

"Do you hear yourself?! A herbivore in the black market alone at night?! Who does that?!" She grimaced in disbelief.

You looked to the side, then back to her with a nonchalant expression.
'Why did I tell her?'

"You worry too much, Els. It's not that dark yet, I'll be ok. Besides, not many hungry carnis could catch up to me. They wish they could get a piece of this." You winked, moving your hip suggestively.

"Is it really worth risking your life for jogging lessons?!"

"Argh, it's not 'jogging'! I'm a competitive relay runner! I don't have time for this." You turned and walked away.

"You're so irresponsible, this is suicide!" You heard from behind.

You ignored the whining.

Regardless of your confidence, instincts still kicked in upon reaching the place. You held onto the strap of your backpack with one hand and kept your guard up.

As you made your way through the shady alleys, you spotted something unexpected.
A herbivore with familiar horns near one of the shops. A fellow gazelle, no doubt. He was wearing a mask.

'What are the chances? Wonder what he's doing here...' You thought to yourself as you watched him.

Suddenly, he looked up, your gaze meeting his. The eye contact lasted a second, then you glanced away.
There was something off about him... but you couldn't tell what.

As you passed him, you felt his stare on the back of your head.

You left the main street.
