Justin's Pov

"So tell me, when was the last time you were able to take some time for yourself?"

"Um...maybe a couple of weeks ago" that was a lie, I barely get any sleep let alone some time to myself.

"Well, what did you do?"

"You know...stuff" I shrugged hoping that my mom would drop the conversation, ever since I injured my MCL I've been stuck at home slowly losing my sanity as each day goes by.

"I refuse to let you sit around here moping all day, why don't you go visit y/n I'm sure she's worried about you" she said in hopes that I would agree with her, what she didn't know is that me and y/n haven't talked to each other in weeks, to make matters worse I didn't really have a good reason why. I keep telling myself that it's just a temporary fallout and we'll go back to how we used to be, but in reality, I had no idea what the future holds for us.

"Maybe I'll go later-"

"No no, you're going now, it's a beautiful sunny day to get some fresh air don't let it go to waste!" she said pushing me up off the couch onto my feet. I winced at the sharp pain coming from my knee as if today couldn't get any more stressful.

"Fine I'll go see her" I sighed limping over to the front door while slipping on the nearest shoe I could find.

"Drive safe okay? Love you! she yelled from the living room.

I got into the car and contemplated if I really wanted to go over there, I mean of course I wanted to but what was I supposed to say? There was no right thing to say...

I pulled out of the driveway and headed towards the direction I had memorized by heart. By the time I reached her house the sun was about to set, I never paid attention to how far the distance was. I hobbled out of the car stuffing my keys into my pocket hoping for the best.

Scanning her house I could tell she was home by the obnoxious amount of lights beaming through the window, she had this odd fear of the dark even if it was broad daylight. Before I could knock on the door, it swung open within seconds revealing her frame dressed in all black with her hair pulled back into a bun.

"I thought you'd never come back around.." she said staring at me with hollow eyes.

"Why wouldn't I?" I questioned

"There's a couple of reasons why you couldn't have" she stated as she pulled me into the house while the smell of burning candles fanned over me. "How long are you gonna be out?'

"Out of what?"

She sighed pointing at the brace on my knee which was now throbbing in pain "Your crippled knee idiot"

"I- Idk the doctor said 2 to 4 weeks but we both know that's not happening"

"Justin for once can you not be hard-headed and give it some time to heal" she expressed while sitting on the kitchen counter.

"It's not that big of an injury I'll be fine, don't worry about it" I said sitting down next to her. "Anyway, what have you been doing lately? you doing okay?" I was praying she would have some type of positive response, the last thing I wanted was for her to feel alone.

"I've been alright, more so worried about you more than anything. It's hard seeing you on the TV screen every day knowing that you're only miles away from me" she said in a soft tone

"I'm sorry..." I trailed off, an immense amount of guilt began to form at the thought of her needing me and me not being there.. like I once promised.

"Don't be... I know things haven't been all that great these past weeks but such is life. I can't blame you for it"

"Technically you could have"

She gave me a confused look "Do you want me to leave you here all alone with your fucked up knee?!" she yelled while smacking my knee in the perfect spot, It took everything in me not to scream.

"Mmmm no nope not at all" I said forcing myself to form words.

"My point exactly, you've got to stop self-sabotaging yourself and realize that not you're not gonna have control over everything that happens in life. Sometimes you just gotta go with it because in the end pain never lasts forever"

"You keep hitting my knee like that the pain will last forever" I said glaring at her.

She laughed at me while getting an ice pack from the freezer "Well maybe if you pay more attention on the field you would have seen a 300-pound man rushing towards you, but hey! what do I know?"

I rolled my eyes at her response, she dropped the ice pack in my lap while waiting for me to give her another reason to hit me, but before I could open my mouth to say anything, there was a hard knock at the door.

"My package is hereee!" she said skipping over to the door.

I looked outside the window to see if there was a delivery truck but instead, there was a bright red truck parked parallel near the sidewalk. "Y/n I don' think that's a package at your doorstep" I said pointing at the estranged vehicle outside

She looked in the same direction, instantly her excitement turned into fear. Slowly backing away from the door she gazed her sight towards me. "I need you to go hide" she said barely above a whisper.

"What- what do you mean go hide who's that at the door??" I questioned her as the banging on the door grew louder and louder. She signed for me to stay quiet as she pointed to the basement, indicating I needed to go down there. Even on my best days, I couldn't begin to guess who could possibly be banging on the door as of they were law enforcement trying to break into a trap house.

Suddenly the noise stopped, the house went dead silent. There was a faint voice coming from the doorway, the tone was so low you had to stop breathing to hear it clearly. Y/n looked at me with worried work planted across her face.

"Y/n open up, you can't answer my calls nor texts come to find out you've been home this entire time" a voice said from the other side of the door,

My brain froze as I recognized the voice all too well, it was Chris. My teammate, best wide receiver on the field...

I guess I wasn't the only one trying to pay her a visit.
