The Final Year (vol 1)

Sting

He planned on taking a nap that cold evening, the cool air from the aftermath of the heavy rain was felt to the bone of every student.

Some took a nap while others decided to spend their time enjoying the coolness of the air as well as the wetness of the grass.

He hummed reminiscing about how he spent his yesterday with his friends and of course a very special girl in his life.

It has been a long time he spent some quality time with his friends, even Femi seem to be warming up to him. All thanks to a girl.

A very crazy girl.

A special girl.

A smile played on his lip but the good moment was soon cut short when someone rushes in. He flew up in alarm, sitting up on his bed ready to give the person who interrupted his good mood an heavy thrashing but paused when he saw who it was.

It was one of his boys and by the look on the boy's face, something bad as happened.

"Tell me" I growled.

"It's senior Teni " he lets out in a breath as I flew up from my sitting position picking my black shirt.

"What happened?"

"Scorpion. Sting" I didn't wait for him to finish his sentence as I throw on the shirt, racing out of the hostel like the hounds of hell were after me.

My heart kept pounding in my chest as I ignored my friend's call, blindly running towards the school building. How the hell did this happen?!

The boy who came to rely the news who was also running after me showed me the way. I raced towards the school farm.

What was she doing on the school farm?!

My running increased as I hear a wail, that voice is familiar. God.. Please, let nothing happen to her... Please..

Racing through the wet grass, i stopped abruptly as she came into my vision.

She laid crying on the ground as Femi tried helping her in some way as he held her close while Tomi kept wiping tears from her eyes.

A little crowd as gathered as some went on a hunt for the scorpion. I rushed up to them pushing Femi away in the process. He threw me a glare but I ignored him.

I wrap my arms around her shaky sweaty body accessing her tightly tied wrist.

"What happened?" I ask no one in particular as I take in her crying form.

"She told me she wanted to see the part of my farm and I brought her and Tomi along. We got here and after a while I hear her scream_"

"You brought her here! " I roared but he seemed a least bit affected as his eyes kept darting at Teni in worry.

She is freaking mine you douche bag!

"I never knew this would happen okay?!" He retorts, my heart filled with fury and I was about to pounce on him but stopped at the soft hand that fondled tightly at my shirt to get my attention.

I quickly turn around to meet her eyes and my heart broke at the teary eyes.

"It hurts, please make it stop" she said bursting into another round of tears.

I have never seen her this vulnerable.

"I tied the rope around her wrist to stop the venom from going further for the main time" the bastard said as his hand reached out to touch her but I slapped it away. "For God sake, dude! She is my friend and she needs help!"

I quickly picked up her feverish form in bridal style, that was when I noticed my friends were here already, they must have ran after me.

I quickly hurried towards the school clinic to get her the required treatment. The school better have an antidote for this.

The school clinic went chaotic as soon as he entered with her, he kept barking orders and screaming at everyone.

The head nurse of the clinic who was not scared of him kindly yet quietly threw him out.

Luckily, they had the antidote. It seems the school was prepared for any kind of situation. She was given the shot and an analgesic.

Soon, everything calmed down.

By the end of the day, Shubbie was allowed to see her. He refused to leave without seeing her.

"Hi.. " I said softly as she looks calm, too calm.

"Hey" she replied in the same tone but of course with a smile appearing on her face, making her glow.

"Are you okay?" She nodded "you scared me back there"

"Sorry if I caused any ruckus, it is just that it hurt like a bitch" I chuckled at her swearing. "Where is everyone?"

"Outside.. Adeola brought your dinner" she nodded. "What were you doing on the farm?" I asked keeping my voice at bay knowing she was recovering.

"I just wanted to check it out and maybe help out and no... It is not Femi's fault. It was no one's fault. I just happen to be in the right place at the wrong time" she defended him, her eyes begging me not to argue with her.

I sigh... I will leave that for another time.

"Alright, but are you sure you are okay, like no pain anywhere?" She nodded "good"

We sat enjoying the silence as she quietly hum a song am not familiar with.

"How is mum?" She asked suddenly.

My eyes widens at her concern for my mum.

I love the fact on how she said 'mum' not 'your mum'.

"She is alright, as you know the operation was successful. She is recuperating and she would be back on her feet very soon"

"Am glad she is okay, she is a strong fighter"

"Thank you for standing by me through those hard times " I said placing my hand on hers.

She only smiled closing her eyes.

I took time to stare at the girl whose mere existence as changed my life. I can't believe she is all mine, God am so lucky...

"Stop" she said, eyes still closed.

"Stop what?"  I asked.

"Stop doing that"

"Stop doing what?" Her eyes flew open exposing the white eyeballs housing the soft brown eyes, my heart skipped a beat.

"Stop with the staring, It's creepy" she pointed out.

"Okay" I cover my eyes with my two hands causing her to giggle. I smile at the sound of that.

I remove my hands from my face only to see her eyes closed. That was when I noticed how tired she was. I adjusted her frame making her lie in a sleeping position.

I watch her fall asleep by the soft rising and falling of her chest, effects of the analgesic drugs.

"Am in love with you, you know that, right?" I told her sleeping form.

Am too much of a coward to tell her when she is awake though.

My eyes fell on the soft caramel like lips of hers. It's being long since I had feel or tasted those lips. God forgive me for this, i know she won't kiss me if she was awake.

Why don't I go for it?

I quickly give the lips a small peck, and kissed her forehead before releasing her.

I turn towards the door, another problem... How am I going to sort out with the people outside.
