"I'm giving you one job, Parker. If you listen to just one thing I say, it's this. Protect my daughter."

"I will, Mr. Stark." No matter the costs, he thought.

Those were the words exchanged between Tony and Peter when Peter began dating (Y/n). When Tony found out. And Peter did just that. In the fight with Thanos, in the passing of her father, in everything they did together.

One night he was patrolling as usual, but there was a fire. He recognized the building, it was his apartment building. And (Y/n) was inside sleeping with the flu. By the time he had gotten there, the fire was lighting up the night, and firefighters were crawling all over the place. Despite the good he had done, he was never popular among the police departments, so they refused his help. "You don't understand!" He shouted. "I have to help!" With the building ablaze, there was no safe stronghold for his webbing. He felt useless. People rushed out in crowds, but not one had (Y/n) in it.

Peter thought of his promise. He would never break it.

He pushed past the officers, leaving them calling him back in his wake. Despite having the money for more, (Y/n) had just wanted a simple life with Peter in a home that was no more than what they needed. She had fallen in love with this side of town, this building. Peter tried to think about how crushed she'd be that the building was gone rather then think for a moment that she had gone with it. He weaved around fire and first responders, luckily running into no civilians that would distract him and the nanotech suit keeping smoke from entering his lungs.

He thought of the press coverage that just already be happening. It was no secret that they lived here, seeing as (Y/n) was Tony Starks daughter, though they tended to focus on her as his identity was still a secret. He thought of all the potential exits from their apartment. There was a large window that he was sure he could swing out of. He just had to focus on another other then his fear that he was too late. As he approached his familiar door, he felt the grime and heat and sweat. He wondered how this even happened. With his suit as protection from the heat, he grabbed the doors handle and slammed it open. "(Y/n)!"

He heard no reply, and his heart felt like it was beating out of his chest. "(Y/n)!" This time he heard a feeble cough amongst the sound of the raging fire in the hall. There was no fire in the apartment, but a shit ton of smoke. He went to the direction he heard her, finding her on the ground of their bed room as if she'd just collapsed. "Peter..." she weakly reached for him. He quickly bent down to her, covered in soot, burning up and swearing, looking pale and weak. "Help." She start to cough violently. "I'm going to get you out of here." He promised. He transferred the tech from his helmet from his head to hers, preventing her from inhaling more smoke. She reacted as though she wanted to refuse, protect him, but was too weak to do so.

Peter lifted her limp body, and started to move toward the window. He moved quickly and determinedly, opening it with struggle as he refused to let his girlfriend go. "(Y/n), darling, I need you to focus on me, please. Do your best to hold onto me." She did so as much as she could, feeling faint. Peter knew this, and made sure to keep a tight grip on her as he climbed out the window and shot a web at a tall building across the street. As they swung across, multiple people noticed and looked up. Multiple members of the press had taken pictures. He landed on the ground without grace, but managed to make himself take the brunt of it.

He coughed a few times, feeling the smoke and grime on his skin and in his lungs. Without thinking, he lifted (Y/n) once more to rush her to one of the ambulances. He still didn't have a mask on, not taking it back until she was on a stretcher, allowing a clear view of his identity to everyone around. An oxygen mask was placed over her, and the EMT paid no mind to the revelation when he allowed Peter to board the vehicle with her.

(Y/n) P.O.V.

I wake up to an annoying beeping sound. And there's a tube in my nose. That itches. I look around and take in the sterile white scene. Hospital. Why? Fire. It was hot. Couldn't breathe. How'd I get here? I look over to my left and see Peter sleeping with his head on the bed. "Peter? Wake up, please!" I manage to reach over and shake him a bit. He look at me through drowsy eyes, but seems happy nonetheless. "Oh my god, you're awake! I love you so much, darling. You're okay." He left up to brush hair from my face and kiss all over. I giggle and push him back a bit. "Breathing room." I demand before going into a coughing fit. He hands me a glass of water, which I take gratefully.

"What happened?" I ask once I'm calmed. He frowns. "There was a big fire. You got stuck in our apartment, probably cause you're sick and we're weakened already. There weren't any casualties, but multiple injuries. We don't know how it started yet. I ran in to help you, and gave you my mask so you wouldn't inhale too much more, and uh... people know who Spiderman is now." I look at him in disbelief. "Peter, how could you? Why would you risk it? You put yourself in so much danger!" He just played with the end of his sleeve, and simply stated, "It won't be easy, but I'd do it again. I had a promise to keep."
