It's not worth winning if you can't win big is what coach Riley kept telling us at practice. I've loved the sport, but I'm not too keen on Riley being our coach. He's arrogant, rude, and selfish. His only focus is winning, which isn't what I play for

I play for fun. I'm competitive as heck but I want to play and have fun while playing

I've had that experience with other teams, but never with the Hawks

"Carter let's pick up the pace" Riley says snapping me out of my thoughts "if we are gonna win, we have to practice like we perform. So if you aren't going to work here, go home and don't waste my time"

I definitely wasn't the star.

Though, I happen to be best friends with his favorite: Adam Banks

We have been friends as long as we've been able to crawl.

Our parents are friends and they always made sure we were too. With us being neighbors, our friendship grew more and more since that day. So did our love for hockey.

Practice was harsh, but it was over and that was all I was happy about

"Hey Ava, you forgot your water" Larson calls out

"Thanks" I said grabbing the bottle from him.

I ended up getting changed pretty fast.

I walked out of the locker room, waiting on Adam

"Hey Adam" I say once he walks out after me

"Hey Lonnie" he says catching up to me.

He has always called me Lonnie even though everyone else calls me Ava or Avalon. I used to not like it, seeing as though it sounds like an old lady's name, but the more he used it, the more I liked it.

"You ready for our game" he asks holding the door for me

"Yeah why wouldn't I be? It's district 5" I say nodding my head as a way of thanking him for holding the door

I personally don't have anything against the D-5 team, I just thought they were easy to beat

"What if they have a secret weapon?" Adam asks jokingly

"Oh yeah some secret NHL player huh?" I go along with his joke

"Totally" he says nudging me

We walked home pretty fast, keeping a steady conversation

"Do you wanna come over?" I ask him

"I would but my mom has been making me do so many more chores than normal" he said walking up his steps

"Oh that's okay. My moms home from a work trip so I'll get to see her" I say walking up my porch steps

"Sweet. See you later?" He says standing on his porch, looking over at me

"Bye"

We both walked in our houses at the same time. Instantly the smell of spaghetti filled my nose and I got excited.

"Mom?" I shout

"In here" she yells back.

I walk into the kitchen and see the food being put onto plates, "you're right on time"

"Great"

My dad walks through the door and walks up to mom and gives her a kiss on the cheek. I turn away in disgust.

Dinner was great. We talked like no time had gone by since my mom left a few weeks ago. I was pretty tired so I washed my plate, took a shower and went to bed.

I end up sleeping through the night, not even thinking about anything except hockey

It is my life. It's been that way since the day I fell in love with it.

Although Riley sucks the fun out of any hockey related thing on the planet. What pains me most is that I can't rant to Adam about it because Adam is his favorite

But it's okay because one day, I'll have a big break and I can finally be away from Riley

*BEEP BEEP BEEP*

Is that my alarm

I reach over to turn it off but instead my hand lands on another

I shoot up from my slumber, instantly awaken by the intrusion

"Morning sunshine" Adam says turning the alarm off

"God you scared me" I said flustered "what are you doing in here?"

"Your mom let me in" he said fumbling a bracelet that I had previously laid down on my bedside table.

"Crap I forgot about those" I said finally sitting up in my bed

"Yeah, we had them made at a fair by like a vendor or something" he said putting the worn down string in his pocket

I remember now. The vendor thought we were a couple, and even after we told him we weren't, he insisted he made some bracelets out of yarn. It was the most embarrassing moment of my life.

We've had those since summer so about three- four months.

"Get up sleeping beauty" Adam said offering his hand

"Okay ugly step sister" I said taking his hand

"I'm not evil" he said helping me out of the bed

"I never said you were evil" I said with a smirk

"Avalon" he said acting hurt

I ignored him with a small chuckle and walk towards my closet and pick out my outfit

I got changed, brushed my teeth, and braided my hair

"Let's go" I said to Adam who was sitting on my bed playing with cards

We walked to his house where his parents were going to give us a ride since mine did it last week

The car ride was silent due to the fact I was thinking about today's game and I presume Adam was too

Before I knew it, we pulled up to the skating rink and we hopped out of the car

"Thanks for the ride Lauren" I said to Adams mom

"Of course Ava, go kick some butt" she said

I simply nodded and started walking to the door

I got changed into my hockey gear and walked onto the ice

"Are you ready?" Adam asks

"Always" I said skating backwards onto the ice

Omggggg I've started another book

I probably shouldn't because I have like two other books, but since no one is really reading any of them, there isn't much of a rush

Well thanks for reading and I hope you liked it!!!
