Part 6

“Damon! What are you doing?!” I exclaimed.

“Silence!” He hissed. “Do you WANT to get killed?”

My lips quivered in fear, and I was panicking. There was a long, thick piece of red silk ribbon around my chest and the chair. My eyes scanned the dark alley quickly for anything that I could do to get myself out of the situation. What was he doing?!

“Da-”

“Not another word,” he growls and sits down with the knife in his hand across the table.

“Please. Why are you doing this?” I cried.

He stared at me, his gray eyes looked darker than ever, even in this brightly lit environment. He cocked his head to the side, smiling a not so friendly smile. “Vanessa. This is simply an act of revenge.”

“Why would you want revenge on me?” I trembled.

“Oh you don’t know? Maybe it has to do with a certain car accident. Maybe the one YOUR brother, Allen was in!”

“Wait. Why would you even want revenge on Allen?”

“He killed my sister, Ness.” The venom of his voice was coming, and I was terrified. “Now, I can kill his precious little sister.”

“What? You have a sister?!” I exclaimed. “Your sister is Trista? As in the Trista Allen killed?!” I didn’t understand. How come I didn’t know that? I just need to continue to distract him. I had to find a way out, and fast! I struggled to wiggle free of the ribbon, but he had tied it tight.

“Don’t bother. You won’t ever get out of that chair alive,” he says, playing with the knife. “Let me make this clear for you. You’re good at math aren’t you? Allen killed Trista. Trista minus family equals Damon getting revenge. Revenge equals Allen minus sister. Allen equals no siblings. Damon equals no siblings. So, Allen equals Damon.”

“Wait! There has to be another way!” I sobbed. “Please don’t do this, Damon.”

“I’ve PLANNED for this day, Ness, ever since I learned you were Allen’s sister. I worked to gain your trust enough to ask you to date me. I started to plan out things to do to you from the stage collapsing to raisin muffin. I even had a little help from friends.”

“You! You did all that?!” I gasped. “Why did you-”

“No more questions. I already told you everything you need to know,” he sneered. “It’s time.” Damon approached me.

“Wait! Before you kill me, think about the consequences!”

“Already have,” he sneers and gets behind me, holding the knife to my neck. "After I untie the ribbon, you're going to not move. You’re just going to follow me over there." He points into the darkness of the alley, and my eyes widened.

I obeyed anyways, that is until I felt the ribbon fall into my lap. I jumped up from the chair and ran for it. I had to try to get away from him.

"Not so fast!" He quickly grabbed my wrist, stopping me from running to the door to the restaurant. I yelped as he yanked me towards him.

He pinned me down on the table, trying to get a better grip on me. My right hand wandered the table for anything I could grab on. Anything. Please. I grabbed the glass bottle of sparkling juice and threw it behind me. I heard the glass shatter and his grip on me loosened. I picked up my head and threw a plate at him just in case he gets back up. He doesn't. I heard a thud and turned around to see Damon knocked out. The knife was a few inches away from his fingers.

I was still breathing heavily. My heart was still racing. I could still feel the sweat trickling down my cheek. I tried to calm myself down, but standing behind Damon’s body wasn’t the way I was going to calm down. I tried to look at the table that he had set up. The flowers were nice. It was a mix between white lilies and red and pink roses. Suddenly, something kind of crispy brown and yellow caught my attention. I reached for it. It was in between two red roses. I pulled it out and it was wilted. Why had he stuck a wilted rose in the bouquet of fresh flowers? I placed it down on the table next to Damon’s plate. I sat down in his chair, trying to process what had happened. I saw something with blue corners on the ends, and picked it up.

“Watch her back.”

Watch her back? Who’s back? Mine? Not another one of these fortune cookies! I circled around to my side of the table by Damon’s body. I quickly ripped open the package and broke the cookie in half, revealing the piece of paper inside.

“Watch your back.”

What were they talking about? Who were they, anyways? I didn’t get to ask myself any more questions. Without a warning, I felt something hard and solid against the back of my head. Suddenly, the lights began to darken, and the world quickly faded black.
