CHAPTER 4

AFTER

"I should go back. Baka nagaalala na sila Mama sa'kin," sambit ko habang sinusuklay ang buhok ko gamit ang mga kamay ko.

"Oh, you're here with your Mom?" tanong niya habang nagsusuot siya ng pantalon.

"No but...."

"It's okay," pag-ngiti niya. "You don't need to tell me anything."

Yumuko ako at pinulot ang T-shirt niya, then I walked towards him.

"Tumakas lang ako," pag-explain ko pa rin. I want to be honest with him. "My parents, they're kind of overprotective when it comes to me. Probably because I'm their youngest child."

"We had a deal. They'll allow me to travel out of the country without them, under one condition; I should bring a few maids and a driver with me."

"That girl shouting at the museum earlier is actually one of my helpers. I ran away with you to experience the freedom I badly want."

"And you do you regret it?" tanong niya.

"Hmmm?"

"Running away with me?"

I smiled and touched his cheek. "No. It's one of the best choices I've ever made."

Ngumisi siya at hinalikan ako. "I'm happy to hear that."

"Give me a sec."

I sat at the chair and made myself busy.

"Now? I can't. I'm not in Melbourne, I'm in Paris---Yeah yeah, just a few days. I'll call you later, bye." "Sorry, my brother thought I was at school."

"Oh. So you're studying in Australia..."

"Yeah. I'm only here for vacation---or inspiration. I need new ideas for a design I'm working on." He smiled. "Mabuti na lang tinuloy ko ang pagpunta rito, otherwise I wouldn't have met you." David walked towards me and held my hand. "Tara na? Baka mapagalitan ka na ng tuluyan niyan."

Tumawa ako at tumayo na. We held hands naturally as if we had been dating for months.

*****

I didn't even dare turn my phone on until we reached the hotel. I'm too scared to deal with my Mom's wrath. And if I'm going to be perfectly honest, I'd say I just don't want anything to distract my time with David.

"I've never been intimate with anyone on the first date," pagamin ko habang naglalakad kami papasok ng lobby. "Sana 'wag mong isipin na ganoon akong klaseng tao, na basta basta na lang nakikipagtalik kung kani-kanino."
