CHAPTER 19:
(Delaney’s POV)
I awoke the next morning with an uneasy feeling flooding throughout my body. I could feel my hands slightly tremor as I reached across to grab my phone from my dresser. I felt myself tense up at the sight of a text message, until I saw Nash’s name printed across the screen.
Hey babe! I had such an amazing time last night. Since we have the day off, let’s just chill today. I’ll be over at 11. Love you.
I glanced at the time on my screen to see that it was 10:13 already. I typed a quick reply and got up to go take a shower. Hopefully a day spent with Nash will help me forget about all of this. For all I know, this could just be somebody pulling an incredibly cruel prank..
Although I have strong feelings that it’s not.
I stepped into the shower and turned it up as hot as it could possibly go, scorching my skin until it was all beat red. I scrubbed at my skin hard as I washed it, trying to bring myself back to reality.
After about half an hour in there, I realized that Nash would be here soon and that I should probably get out. The water had turned cold, but I had barely noticed as I was already trapped up in my thoughts, too preoccupied with my fears to think clearly.
I wrapped the towel around my now shivering body. The burst of air conditioner that hit me once I left the humid, foggy bathroom didn’t help my case too much.
I went to my drawers and picked out a random swimsuit from it. It ended up being my strapless black one piece. I then threw a pair of teal swim shorts over, just because I wasn’t really feeling the whole “show off your legs and the rest of your damn body to impress a guy” thing. I pulled my white sundress over everything and quickly dried my hair, even though it’d probably just get wet again.. But I honestly don’t care.
I put a simple layer of waterproof mascara across my lashes, too lazy, and not seeing the point of making myself look good for the beach. The doorbell sounded, and my body went rigid. I glanced at the clock to see that it was 11; It’s just Nash.
I let out a breath of relief and slipped on some black flip flops and my black sunglasses as well. I draped a towel across my arm and grabbed some tanning lotion; might as well get something productive done today.
I unlocked my door and peeked my head around the corner. The hallway was empty, but the sound of voices echoed up the stairs. I stepped out into the hall, a board creaking slightly beneath me, and making me withdraw my foot quickly. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself.
Everything is fine Delaney. Nobody is going to get to you. Just take deep breaths.
“Laney?” Nash’s voice called to me.
I looked down to see that I was right in front of the stairs already. I was breathing heavily and just standing there, so I probably looked very odd to him right now.
