"Salut."

"Salut," I echoed.

"Foarte bine," Cristian said. "Well done. Ce mai faci?"

"Sunt bine," I responded in a questioning tone, unsure if I was correct.

"You're doing well?" Cristian asked. I nodded in confirmation. "Da. There you go. We just had a conversation," Cristian said with a smile.

"Pretty boring conversation," I said with a smile.

"That's how we've got to start," he said and stood from his desk, stretching his arms over his head so that a strip on his skin appeared from under his shirt. "Sunt flămând."

"Ce?"

"I'm hungry. Sunt flămând," he repeated.

"Oh, Şi eu," I responded.

"Foarte bine," Cristian exclaimed. "I didn't teach you that one, did I?"

"No, I heard Dmitri say it the other day."

"You're like a sponge," he teased. "I'm going for lunch. Would you like to join me?"

"Sure," I accepted and stood up.

Cristian and I walked to the mess hall, which was on the far northwest side of the reserve. It was a large building, with both a dining area and a cafeteria.

"I haven't eaten here yet," I informed him as we entered the building.

"It's good. There's a lot of choices," he told me and rubbed his hands together to ward off the cold.

"Mr. Balaur," one of the cafeteria workers exclaimed as we walked in, "how's it going?"

"Very good," he responded and shook the man's hand. "This is Y/N."

"Hello," I greeted.

"I'm Dan," the man introduced. "You're the new apprentice?"

"Yeah. It's nice to meet you," I said and accepted his hand when he held it out.

"I've been wondering when you were going to come in, you know? We've been hearing about you a lot back here," Dan said and gestured behind him, where there was a counter.

"So, do you guys work in here all the time?" I asked curiously and looked over the counter where people were preparing food.

"Yeah," Dan said and followed my gaze behind the counter. "There're a lot of mouths to feed. What can I get for you guys?"

Cristian looked over what must have been a daily menu and hummed quietly to himself.

"Any ideas?" he asked me.

"I don't even know what some of this stuff is," I admitted.

"Dan, can we get a couple of orders of sarmale?"

"Sure thing, Mr. Balaur," Dan said and disappeared into the back.

"What's sarmale?" I asked, looking up at Cristian.

"Cabbage rolls. They're good, trust me," he said and watched as Dan came back carrying two trays.

"They just finished boiling," he said as he pushed them over the counter to Cristian, who handed a few galleons to him.
