"Ganyan talaga ang buhay, hindi lahat nananatili sa tabi natin." Si Keith, nasa kabilang treadmill ito.

Carter is already sweating. His attention is in front of him. Malalaking puno lang ang makikita doon, wala ng iba. Nasa liblib na bahagi ang Agency, pribado at hin'di basta-basta nagpapapasok ng kung sino lang.

"Why don't you try?" Balik tanong nito sa kanya.

Lumipas ang ilan pang minuto at sa boxing ring naman sila lumipat. They started throwing punch to each other.

"You can still go back if you really want, but why did you choose not to?" Carter asked Keith when their topic went to Military.

Ilang taon na rin na wala sa Militar si Keith. He received an honorable discharge. He also became a cop, but it didn't last long. If why? He has no idea.

"Alam mo, ang taong wala masyadong alam, mas matagal ang buhay," makahulugan na sabi nito.

Ramdam niya kaagad na hindi magsasabi sa kanya ang kaibigan ng kahit na ano para lang hindi madagdagan ang kaalaman niya!

BEFORE the official engagement party of his brother Clane and Ayesha Villamor, Carter went to D' Club in Manila to chill.

Everyone in Villa Altaraza is busy, they tightened the security. They discovered that someone wanted to ruin the party and they need to do something with it.

He's with his friends at the moment and it's surprising because they are all present. Sa ganitong pagkakataon, sinisigurado nilang lahat ang suporta ng bawat isa ay nariyan lang sa oras na kailangan. "Who's that someone?" Zyron asked.

"It's Ayesha's personal bodyguard. Samuel."

"This is not a prank, right? Wala naman vlogger satin?" ani Zyron, seryoso pa talaga si gago.

"Tarantado ka talaga, Fuentes. Tumahimik ka at makinig nalang, pwede ba?" Si Dwaye na may pagbato pa ng ice cube kay Zy.

"Bakit ang sungit mo na naman, Mendez? Hindi ka na naman ba pinatabi ng asawa mo sa pagtulog?" Patutyada ni Zyron na hindi yata talaga tatahimik.

"What's the plan, Clane?" Drake seriously asked.

"The party will continue. I guarantee all of you that nobody will get hurt."

"So, we will act like nothing is wrong?" It was Brooke.

"Yes. We'll make Samuel believe that we are an idiot and we didn't know his plan."

"What is his plan by the way?" Banchero asked calmly.

He can feel the intensity between Howell and Keith. Ni hindi tumitingin sa isa't isa ang dalawa. Carter knew the reason why. Howell is secretly in a relationship with Keith's sister-Yane, and the brute didn't really like the idea when he discovered it.

Siguro kung may kapatid siyang babae at nakipag-relasyon sa kaibigan niya nang hindi niya alam, bubugbugin niya rin ang kaibigan niya, sigurado. Kaya nagpapasalamat siya na wala siyang kapatid na babae.

"He plans to take my wife and my son away from me."

"Ang lakas naman pala ng loob ng gagong 'yon." Si Dwaye, iiling-iling.

"Pinagpaplanuhan niya palang kunin ang mag-ina ni daddy Clane..." Ani Zyron na sinamaan ng tingin ng Kuya Clane niya dahil sa tawag nito. "...bakit? Daddy ka naman huh!"

Nagtawanan ang mga kaibigan niya dahil parang nasindak si Zyron sa titig na 'yon ng kapatid niya pero hindi pa rin nagpatinag talaga.

"Can you just shut your mouth even just for a minute? Please? Fuentes?" Clane impatiently told Zyron.

"Napakasungit," Zy murmured.

"Keith will handle the security, so I know you'll be safe," Carter informed his friends.

"Oo naman, idol ko 'to, e," ani Zyron sabay akbay kay Keith na nilayuan lang ng huli, halatang hindi nakikipagbiruan.

Itong gagong Zyron lang naman ang pinaka kwela sa kanilang lahat na magkakaibigan na kahit seryoso ang usapan, babanat pa rin ng kalokohan.

Tinapik niya ang kamay ni Zyron na naka-akbay kay Keith.

"Oh si gago selos agad." Patuyang sabi sa kanya nito. "Para inakbayan ko lang si Keith."

Nagtawanan ulit ang mga kaibigan niya. Tarantado talaga ang isang 'to. Tumino na 'yan sa lagay na 'yan?

"Hayaan mo na Carter, malay mo huling akbay niya na 'yan kay Keith."

Carter only snorted and continue removing Zy's hand on Keith's shoulder.

"Oo nga. Minsan ko lang makasama si Keith, hayaan mo na akong mag lambing. Hindi ko naman 'to aagawin sa 'yo, Altaraza." Sabay halos yakapin pa nito si Keith na tahimik lang at napapailing.

"Tang ina mo, baliw ka talaga." aniya, sabay simsim sa alak.

"Selos ka lang kamo."

"Shut up, Fuentes." Carter kicked Zyron's leg, making Keith chuckle.

They continue talking about their plan while drinking.

"Kapag namatay lahat ng ilaw, 'yon na 'yon?"

"Yes, that's the cue and you need to remain on your sit. Don't panic."

"My wife likes it dark, so it will be fine," Drake said, making Dwaye's rolled his eyes.

Drake's wife is Dwaye's sister by the way.

"Yumayakap agad sa 'kin ang asawa ko kapag madilim." Si Brooke.

"Matapang ang asawa ko 'wag lang sa dilim." Tatawa-tawa si Dwaye.

"My wife prefers dark, so, yeah, she'll be fine." It was Colton.

"Hindi takot sa dilim ang asawa ko, matapang 'yon. Kaya mahal na mahal ko 'yon." Bida ni Zyron.

"Usapang mag-asawa na naman? This is not the right place for us Carter," Kielton said dryly.

"Mag asawa na kasi kayo. Tama na ang pagtikim sa iba't-ibang putahe." Si Dwaye.

"Sa dami ng babaeng nakasiping niyo, wala pa naman naghahabol na nabuntis niyo?"

"Sayo pa talaga nanggaling ang tanong na 'yan Fuentes?" Sarkastikong sabi niya, sabay simsim ulit sa alak.

"Nagbago na nga kasi ako, Altaraza. Magbago na rin kayo ni Kielton. Baka maging puro panganay ang anak niyo."

"Hindi ko hilig magpaputok sa loob. I'm safe." Kielton was confident. "Ewan ko lang dito kay Carter."

"Mayaman naman ang mga Altaraza kayang-kaya suportahan ang mga anak sa labas kung sakaling mayroon."

"Proceed to the next plan," Keith cut that conversation like as if it was nonsense.

"Yes, sir!" Zyron salute like a real soldier.

"Stay calm and just tell your family that Kuya Clane made a surprise to Ayesha that's why the lights suddenly turned off." Carter continued. "But the truth is, that time, we'll catch Samuel."

"For your protection, we'll give each of you a bulletproof vest," Clane added.

"We still have time so it will be great if you join us in shooting. Alam kong marunong naman kayong humawak ng baril, hasain lang ulit natin dahil baka kinakalawang na."

Sumang-ayon naman ang mga kaibigan niya sa suhestiyon nilang 'yon. Mas mainam na may mga armas din itong hawak sa gabing 'yon para na rin maipagtanggol ang sarili kung sakaling kinailangan.

Noong gabing din 'yon ay bumalik sina Clane at Colton sa Villa Altaraza. Carter stay in Manila with Kielton like what they used to do. Ang mga kaibigan nilang may mga asawa na ay nagsi-uwian sa bahay ng mga ito.

"Drink moderately you two." Bilin ni Keith sa kanilang dalawa ni Kielton.

"Don't you want to join us?" Kielton asked.

"No, thanks. I still have some important things to do, Grande."

"Ayaw mo pa rin magpakita kay Yane? Namimiss ka na niya." Walang prenong sabi niya sa kaibigan.

Yane is currently doing her on-the-job training in Villa Altaraza. It reminds him of Akira. Kung sana hindi ito biglang umalis, marahil ay magkasabay ang dalawa sa pag-o-ojt. Carter shook his head to erase that thought.

"Not now. I will soon."

Keith is really about to leave the Club and for some fucking reason, Carter stood up and give the brute a tight embrace.

Tinapik-tapik lang nito ang balikat niya.

"Payakap nga rin." Tatawa-tawa si Kielton at nakiyakap din.

He really honor their friendship. Masasabi niyang ibaang klase ang pagkakaibigan nilang dalawa. Marami na silang pinagdaanan at parehong humarap kay kamatayan.

When Keith embrace both of them like his little brothers, Carter felt like something hit his chest.

Nahahati siya kung yayakapin niya pa ba ito ng mahigpit o luluwagan at papakawalan.
