8.       Monte Carlo
Unknown POV

“Are you alright?” He asked again.

“No.”

“Want to see a movie?”

“No.”

“Want to get something to eat?”

“No.” I clenched my fists into tight balls.

“Want to—,”

“Shut up.”

He opened his mouth and I glared at him, causing him to shift and turn his eyes away from me. He sighed sadly and I did the same. “Sorry Louis. I’m…not myself right now.”

Louis sighed exaggeratedly again so I narrowed my eyes at him, earning a teasing chuckle. “I understand little cousin but you need to loosen up a bit before you tie the knot.”

I knew he was teasing me but I couldn’t help but want to punch him in the face. Dickhead. “Shut up, Louis, before I punch a hole in your face.”

Louis was a good cousin most of the time but he should know better than to tease me about that crap. What decent eighteen year old gets married this early—in this century? What decent parents would arrange their children’s’ marriages and not even let them meet through an eighteen year streak. It was bullshit and Louis knew it but he still teased me about it. Even if our age gap was a mere two years he could still act a little more mature than this Peter Pan wannabe beside me.

“You wouldn’t.” He said, confidently. “I’m needed for the next couple of months.”

I smiled. At least this arranged marriage wasn’t only affecting me but him too. “At least we’re getting married together…tell me, Louis, have you met your bride-to-be?”

He grinned. “Some things are meant to be kept a secret, baby cousin. Secrets make us who we are most of the time.”

Frowning, I threw a throw pillow at his head and he caught it, flashing me a wink and thanking me. His words affected me deeply—yes, Secrets make us who we are most of the time. If we kept a secret from everyone else then we would practically be creating our own identity—another person even. I groaned.
